Last week, Days Gone made headlines when one of its directors, Jeff Ross, claimed that it sold more copies (over 8 million, in fact) than Ghost of Tsushima. After its decidedly lacklustre critical reception, that surprised a lot of people. In reality, Ross’ figures weren’t the most reliable. He has since revealed he pulled the numbers from the now defunct website Gamestat which tracked trophy data. It goes without saying that this would include all those people who played Days Gone for free as part of the PS Plus Collection. Still, that’s a lot of players. And with that many players comes an appetite for a sequel. I myself would be keen to step into Deacon St. John’s shoes again. But how likely is it Days Gone 2 will ever be made?
Will there be a Days Gone 2?
It is highly unlikely we’ll ever get Days Gone 2. And that is disappointing.
Despite mixed reviews, the original Days Gone developed a legion of fans. Personally, I thought it was rated too harshly by many critics and didn’t get a fair cop. Since its inclusion as part of the free PS Plus Collection, it’s clear many others feel the same. Nevertheless, Sony obviously had no faith in the idea of a Days Gone sequel and it has been almost entirely ruled out.
Days Gone sequel cancelled
Jeff Ross has recently gone on record to comment on the failed pitch for Days Gone 2. “It was very obvious that we shouldn’t be talking about Days Gone while we were working on the pitch and generating it. It was clear that it was a non-starter,” he said.
From what Ross has shared, we now know Sony had no interest in bringing back Days Gone for a sequel. While things could change in the future, it seems unlikely. Unless a future re-release generates significant interest, Days Gone 2 will almost certainly not happen.
Days Gone 2 release date
For those asking “when is Days Gone 2 coming out?”, it’s bad news. Days Gone 2 was rejected by Sony, so it doesn’t have a release date. If the game does ever materialise, its release date is likely to be a long way in the future – so don’t hold your breath.
Days Gone 2 petition
For those of you who would love to see a Days Gone sequel, there is a sliver of hope. A petition has been created over on Change.org to pressure Sony into approving Days Gone 2. As of writing, it has over 142,000 signatures. So, if you’re really wanting to get your hands on Days Gone 2, head over there and sign the petition. You can find it here.
