Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most controversial launches in gaming history. But after a tonne of work by CD Projekt Red to get the game into a good state, it has experienced a resurgence with fans. With popularity at a renewed high, there was no better time to announce the new paid DLC Phantom Liberty than The Game Awards. The expansion is set to feature Idris Elba. But who is Idris Elba’s character in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?

Before we get into that, let’s look at what was revealed about Phantom Liberty at The Game Awards.

The new DLC sees the return of V and Keanu Reeve’s Johnny Silverhand. It will expand on the existing Cyberpunk 2077 story and take the game to the Pacifica Combat Zone.

The Pacifica Combat Zone is a former suburb and subdistrict of Night City that lies south of the city proper. Intended as a vacation resort for the ultra-wealthy, Pacifica was left unfinished when the New United States of America threatened to invade the autonomous Night City from the south. Abandoned and derelict, Pacifica became overrun by criminal activity, poverty, and violence.

In the Cyberpunk universe, the New United States of America are the restructured remnants of the United States stemming from the Crash of ’94 and The Collapse. Some areas remained autonomous and separate from the NUSA as Free States. This lead to the Unification War which resulted in Night City becoming its own autonomous region.

Phantom Liberty will explore the wider story around Pacifica, the Free States, and the NUSA. And that’s where Idris Elba’s character comes in.

So, who is Idris Elba’s character in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?

We know the game will take players into the heart of the Pacifica Combat Zone and explore the conflict with the NUSA.

In the trailer for Phantom Liberty, we see a downed NUSA aircraft. The aircraft is reminiscent of Air Force One – which could spell trouble for NUSA President Rosalind Myers in Phantom Liberty.

How many times you gotta take a bullet for these motherf*ckers in the name of empty promises?

Outside of that, we don’t know much about the new DLC. That is, except for the fact that V must enlist the help of Idris Elba’s character to restore peace to the Pacifica region.

Idris Elba plays NUSA FIA agent Solomon Reed. According to the trailer, he’s the only person V and company can trust in their mission to restore peace to the Pacfica region.

Peace comes at a price. Someone’s always gotta pay.

At present, that’s all we know about Solomon Reed. Fans will have to wait for CD Projekt Red to reveal more about Idris Elba’s mysterious new character in the coming months.

Phantom Liberty is currently without a definite release date – but it’s coming sometime in 2023. So, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to get to know Solomon Reed.
