After two and a half years of work, Cyberpunk 2077 is in a great state compared to when it launched. With these improvements and the upcoming release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, CD Projekt Red’s RPG is experiencing something of a resurgence. And many of these players are interested to know if there’s a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod that allows you to play with friends.
Night City is a vast sprawling metropolis of futuristic technology, loose morals, and violence. It has always been fun to explore and the ability to team up with friends is something many players wanted on the run up to release. Unfortunately, multiplayer was not implemented in the game. This left mods as the only way for players to buddy up and take to the mean streets of Night City.
Games like Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption II, and Fallout 76 can be incredibly fun to play with friends. And the world of Cyberpunk would also be an ideal place to cruise around in your very own crew. Initially, multiplayer was planned to be a part of Cyberpunk 2077 – but this idea was abandoned. CD Projekt Red’s Phillip Weber explained, “we don’t want to go overboard and lose our single-player DNA.”
So, is there a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod that allows you to explore Night City with friends?
Is there a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod?
Unfortunately, there is not currently a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod that allows you to play with friends around Night City. However, a previous version of the CyberScript mod included a multiplayer component. Disappointingly, this was removed in the most recent version.
While CyberScript did technically enable multiplayer on PC, it wasn’t without its problems. Videos of the mod in action show janky movement, strange animations, and what appears to be a poor connection. This is probably the reason behind the multiplayer component being pulled.
As of writing, there is no way to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 with friends via a multiplayer mod. But that doesn’t mean the option won’t become available in the future. It is always possible that the feature is reintroduced to CyberScript, so be sure to stay tuned to its Nexus page. The other possibility is that multiplayer is included in the upcoming Cyberpunk game. At this stage, we can only hope.
