Cult of the Lamb: How To Sacrifice A Specific Follower

This Cult of the Lamb guide explains how to sacrifice followers.

Cult of the Lamb is the new rogue-like action-adventure game from Australian developers Massive Monster. Its unique cult-building premise, charming art-style, and aptly crazy story has skyrocketed it to the top of video game charts.

In the game, players control a lamb who is sacrificed by four heretic prophets. The lamb is then resurrected by a malevolent deity named “The One Who Waits” and instructed to start a cult in his honour.

The game interlaces rogue-like action sequences with village building akin to Animal Crossing. Along the way, players convert new followers to their cult and must maintain their faith and quality of life.

Faith is managed through a variety of cult traditions like rituals, sacrifice, worship, and issuing religious doctrine. All in all, it makes for a wonderfully unique and messed-up experience that’s hugely rewarding and addictive.

However, the game is quite complex and there’s a lot to wrap your head around. As a result, players have a lot of questions about how things work in Cult of the Lamb.

One of the first things players will want to know is how to sacrifice followers.

For the uninitiated, the faith followers have in the cult fluctuates depending on in-game actions. When it becomes too low, they begin to speak out against the cult and can drag other followers into their heresy.

When this happens, the player has two options. Either re-educate them and convince them to maintain their faith in the cult. Or, sacrifice them to The One Who Waits. The game makes these options clear early on, but it doesn’t explain exactly how to sacrifice them.

So, let’s go over how to sacrifice followers in Cult of the Lamb

The game implies that sacrificing followers is available right from the start. However, that isn’t the case.

You actually need to progress to a certain point in the game to unlock the ability.

This is how to sacrifice a specific follower in Cult of the Lamb: To sacrifice followers, you must complete three runs through the Darkwood. Once complete, The One Who Waits will give you the Sacrifice of the Flesh Doctrine.

After getting the doctrine, head to your temple where the Sacrifice of the Flesh ritual will now be available.

Once you have selected the ritual, you can pick which specific follower you want to send to meet The One Who Waits. The ritual requires 75 Bones.

Tip for Sacrificing Followers

Before you commit to slaughtering any of your followers, be sure to declare the Belief in Sacrifice Trait doctrine.

This trait grants +20 Faith to followers when another Cult member is sacrificed. It’s a sure-fire way to avoid any unwanted losses in Faith.
