CoD Black Ops Cold War: Throw, release or capture Qasim

This guide explains whether to throw, release or capture Qasim Javadi and the associated outcomes in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may be coming up on three years old but it is about to have something of a resurgence. It is set to be one of July’s free PlayStation Plus games – and that means anyone that didn’t play it before can now try it without any impact on their wallet.

Black Ops Cold War is the sixth entry in Call of Duty‘s “Black Ops” sub-series. Set during the 1980s Cold War era, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War follows CIA operative “Bell” in their mission to stop the Soviet spy known as Perseus. Bell joins an elite team of international agents to track down Perseus and prevent their plan of using nuclear weapons to shift the balance of power. Players embark on covert missions across global hotspots, encountering twists, betrayals, and moral dilemmas as they uncover Perseus’ true identity and race against time to avert a global catastrophe.

With a mix of historical events and fictional elements, the game presents a gripping narrative that explores espionage, deception, and geopolitical tension. As the lines between friend and foe blur, Bell and the team face difficult choices that could shape the course of history.

At the start of the game, you are sent to capture or kill one of Perseus’ calabarators, Iranian terrorist Qasim Javadi. Once you have apprehended and interrogated Qasim, you are given the choice of whether to throw him off a roof, to release him, or to capture him as a prisoner. Each choice alters what happens to him – so, should you throw, release or capture Qasim?

After you have interrogated Qasim Javadi, he reveals the location of his ally, Arash Kadivar. Once you have this information, you are left to decide Qasim’s fate. Below are the three choices you are given and the outcomes of each one:

  1. Capture – you spare Qasim’s life and take him with you. N.B. sparing his life does not change the story and he does not reappear later in the game.
  2. Throw – you throw Qasim off the roof, killing him.
  3. Release – you let Qasim go; however, Adler shoots him in the head, killing him, before he can escape. You also have the option of shooting him before Adler does.

It is important to note that none of these choices impact the story of Black Ops Cold War outside of unique lines of dialogue. Saving or killing Qasim does not change what happens later in the game, so rest assured that this decision doesn’t really matter all that much.

As a result, you are free to do whatever you like with Qasim Javadi. If you fancy chucking him off the roof, go for it because neither the CIA nor the KGB care all that much.
