Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (MW2) is reportedly suffering from a serious level reset bug and other progress-related problems. Upon logging into MW2 following the launch of Modern Warfare III‘s campaign early access, some players are finding their accounts have inexplicably reverted to level one.

A number of players also claim they are unable to access operator skins, the Battle Pass, and their loadouts, as well as unlockables from The Haunting event. This includes paid-for content that players have purchased via the Call of Duty store.

Frustrated players have taken to social media to voice their concern and anger. Posting their experience on X, one user said: “Yo what’s going on with mw2???? I just got reset to level one, lost all my s**t. And it’s telling me to repurchase the battle pass.. @CallofDuty maybe you should fix your game before you release a new one”.

Another asked: “Anybody else’s mw2 account fully reset to level 1?”. Meanwhile, others have sent messages to official Call of Duty and Activision accounts. “@Activision Why the hell is my level in #MW2 reset to 1??? WTF!”, wrote @TeejayMerks. @kyleg709 asked the official CoD account on X “Why is mw2 reset to level 1 for everyone and glitched???”

Popular Call of Duty streamer and news account ModernWarzone has also posted about the issues players are experiencing: “Reports of people having their MWII accounts reset and being unable to play the #MW3 campaign even if they were already playing it.”

The exact reason for the bug is unclear and it is not impacting all MW2 players equally. However, it appears to be related to the start of campaign early access for the latest Call of Duty game. MW3 uses the new Call of Duty HQ launcher, which works as a unified access point for all CoD content and also includes MW2 and Warzone.

Call of Duty MW2 level reset bug fix

In response to reports from players, the official Call of Duty Updates account confirmed the issue was being looked into. “We are investigating a service outage impacting multiple titles. During this time, Campaign Early Access, account ownership checks, and progression systems may be temporarily unavailable. We will provide an update as soon as we are able.”

Shortly afterwards, Call of Duty Updates announced that the issue had been resolved. “Services impacted by this outage are now recovering. Players should not observe a loss in Campaign completion progress. Challenges and other online progression systems are once again tracking, although it may take some time for the accurate Player Rank to appear.”

The now-fixed errors follow disappointing news yesterday that Modern Warfare III lacks its own platinum trophy on PS5. Instead, it appears as DLC content under MW2‘s trophy list.
