Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is mixing things up in a big way. Between the return of traditional round-based zombies and classic Prestige, as well as the all-new ‘omnimovement’ system, there’s a lot for CoD fans to get excited about.
Over the years, players have grown accustomed to the weapons that Call of Duty features. Usually, we see pretty much the same guns every year. And while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s always nice to try something new.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Matt Scronce and Yale Miller, Treyarch’s associate design director and senior director of production, respectively, said that there’re 12 new weapons for players to try in Black Ops 6 that have never appeared in Call of Duty before.
GamesBeat’s Dean Takahashi asked the pair if it was “a bit risky” for Treyarch to go back in time after giving players “a taste of modern weapons”.
“We definitely discussed that as a team. On the flip side, it gives us an opportunity to bring a bunch of new weapons that players have never seen before,” replied Scronce. “We’re at 12 weapons that have never been seen in the franchise… I think it’s more than any other new Call of Duty has introduced. But it’s also–because we’re Black Ops, we can introduce those new prototype weapons that only a few people have heard of.”
Talking about one weapon in particular, Scronce said: “It’s super-prototype, but it’s cool.”
Presumably this means that Black Ops 6 players will get their hands on some real-life inspired, cutting-edge prototype weapons that never saw mass production in their day. We’ll have to wait and see what exactly that will look like, but it’s certainly exciting.
Later in the interview, Scronce addressed concerns about recent CoD titles changing the stopping power of sniper rifles from game-to-game. Scronce confirmed that “all [Black Ops 6] sniper rifles are one shot torso up” in multiplayer.
Treyarch’s associate design director also revealed that Black Ops 6 multiplayer will feature 16 brand new maps at launch.
