Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer has been ready for a year

A trailer for the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been ready for around one year, according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is one of gaming’s biggest mysteries. The first game came out all the way back in 2003 and developed a cult following despite being a commercial failure at the time. The second game, a prequel, has been in development for more than 15 years, capturing the record for the longest development period ever from Duke Nukem Forever in 2022.

Beyond Good & Evil, which was developed and published by Ubisoft for the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and PC, follows Jade, an investigative reporter and, later, an IRIS Network operative, who joins the resistance against an alien race known as the DomZ.

I know it's a meme at this point, but a BG&E2 trailer has been ready for about a year… It would be nice to actually see it this weekend – or at the very least a BG&E 20th anniversary release date (which was meant to release months ago).

Posting on X, Henderson wrote: “I know it’s a meme at this point, but a BG&E2 trailer has been ready for about a year… It would be nice to actually see it this weekend – or at the very least a BG&E 20th anniversary release date (which was meant to release months ago).”

The first game’s 20th anniversary edition was accidentally made available in November last year to Ubisoft+ subscribers.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Ubisoft explained: “Due to a technical error, an early development version of Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition was recently released to some Ubisoft+ subscribers.”

“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Beyond Good & Evil, we’re excited to share that the official launch is set for early 2024, and we look forward to sharing more with you in the new year,” the publisher continued.

Despite the promise of more information, there has been no update about the release of Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition so far this year.

Summer Game Fest begins today. As the biggest video game live event of the summer (since the end of E3), it would make sense for Ubisoft share more information about the Anniversary Edition and the trailer of Beyond Good & Evil 2 at the event.

As part of Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft Forward is scheduled for Monday, 10 June at 7:30pm BST/8:30pm CEST/2:30pm EDT/11:30am PDT.
