After an epic seven-year run, Better Call Saul is almost over. And Season 6B has featured many memorable moments and returning characters. One character who returned to Better Call Saul in the penultimate episode was Cheryl Hamlin.

Cheryl was visited by a guilt-ridden Kim Wexler after she returned to Albuquerque from Florida.

Cheryl has previously appeared in three episodes. Her appearances have been brief, and it’s likely that some fans may not remember exactly what she did or how she fit into the story.

Cheryl’s role has been relatively small, but it has been important. It took her six seasons to show up in Better Call Saul. However, Cheryl is key to understanding one of Better Call Saul‘s most integral characters and the fallout of his death.

So, who is Cheryl Hamlin in Better Call Saul? Why is she so key to the final season? Keep reading to find out…

Better Call Saul Cheryl – Who is she?

Who is Cheryl Hamlin in Better Call Saul? Cheryl Hamlin is the wife of Howard Hamlin. She is played by Sandrine Holt. Cheryl first appeared in season 6 episode 6.

Howard Hamlin was the owner and CEO of law firm HHM (Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill). In Cheryl’s first scene, Howard is preparing a morning latte for her.

He takes great care over the coffee, and creates a peace symbol out of the milk foam. Cheryl tips the coffee into a travel mug. It’s made clear the two sleep separately.

Howard attempts to engage Cheryl in conversation but she is blunt in response. He warns her that Jimmy McGill is causing trouble for him and she leaves.

Cheryl is next seen at Howard’s wake at HHM’s offices following his murder at the hands of Lalo Salamanca. She – and everyone else – believe his death was a suicide.

She is distraught and struggling to understand why he did what he did. Kim and Jimmy go to see Cheryl and share their condolences. When she quizzes them, the pair confirm Howard was a drug addict and was high on the night of his death.

To take the heat off them, Kim says to Cheryl that, as his wife, she would’ve known if Howard was a cocaine addict. This deeply upsets Cheryl – presumably out of guilt as the two had drifted apart.

What did Cheryl do in Waterworks episode?

Cheryl later appeared in ‘Waterworks’, the penultimate episode of Better Call Saul.

As mentioned, Kim Wexler visits Cheryl. She tells her the truth about Howard’s death and the subsequent cover-up.

Kim gives Cheryl an affidavit which explains everything. However, when Cheryl questions what will happen next, Kim explains a body probably won’t be found and that the district attorney likely won’t prosecute due to lack of evidence and witnesses.

Cheryl is clearly shaken by the revelation and threatens civil action against Kim.

Kim – who was racked with guilt since Howard’s death – is finally free from the burden and breaks down during a bus journey following her conversation with Cheryl.

Earlier in the episode, Jimmy calls Kim and they speak for the first time in years. While the conversation is hostile, Jimmy informs Kim that everyone connected to Howard’s death is “in the ground”.

It’s possible that Jimmy did this deliberately, so Kim knew she was finally free to tell the truth and rid herself of the guilt.
