Bayonetta 3 was announced almost five years ago in December 2017. And developer PlatinumGames has finally released a brand new trailer that confirms when the much-anticipated sequel will be released.

But that’s not all. The company also revealed that it will include a new mode which will censor the game to make it less “awkward” to play.

Bayonetta 3 release date

Bayonetta 3 will be released on October 28th 2022 for Nintendo Switch, as confirmed in its latest trailer.

Exactly when the game would launch had been a mystery since it was first revealed. So it’s great to finally know when to expect it.

Bayonetta 3 trailer

The latest Bayonetta 3 trailer dropped on July 13th and reveals plenty about the eponymous character’s latest hack and slash adventure and showcases lots of gameplay. You can watch it here.

Naive Angel Mode

As for censorship, Bayonetta 3 won’t actually be censored at all. It will simply offer players the choice to turn nudity on or off if they want to.

What little nudity there is in Bayonetta has always been just a brief glimpse. However, Bayonetta’s clothes do disappear momentarily when performing certain moves in the first two instalments. This will return in Bayonetta 3.

The reason for Bayonetta’s nudity when fighting is because her clothes are actually made out of her hair.

Now, PlatinumGames has seemingly realised this may make for some uncomfortable experiences when playing the game in a family room. And they’ve added ‘Naive Angel Mode’ to avoid that problem.

The developer said in a tweet:

Please rest assured I’m taking it off

In order for more people to enjoy it, Bayonetta 3 is equipped with an epoch-making “naive angel mode”. By setting this mode to “ON”, you may be able to play in the living room without creating an awkward atmosphere … #BAYONETTA3

We can’t argue with the logic. Player choice is always a good thing, and now players can experience the game however they like.

PlatinumGames also shared a short before and after video demonstrating what Naive Angel Mode does. Simply put, the game’s characters will wear more clothes with the feature enabled.

As for what the game is about, Nintendo’s official listing states:

Bayonetta struts through multiple locations in an all-new, over-the-top climax action game. Sporting a wicked new ensemble and somehow familiar pigtails, the titular Umbra Witch must face a mysterious evil using her signature guns and time-slowing Witch Time ability. This time, invading manmade bioweapons called Homunculi find themselves in Bayonetta’s crosshairs.
