This Baldur’s Gate 3 guide explains whether trophies auto-pop with cross-saves on PS5.
At last, Baldur’s Gate 3 has arrived on PS5. After a lengthy early access period followed by a further one-month delay, I was finally able to check out the acclaimed RPG on console.
Given the game was available on PC before its PS5 release, I had already made significant progress in BG3 on that platform. And, given that I own both a PC and PS5, I was keen to see how the experience compares on console.
Handily, Baldur’s Gate 3 allows cross-saves. As I have the feature enabled, I was able to use my BG3 saves across different platforms via my Larian Studios account. That meant I could bring my beloved PC character and progress over to the PS5 version of the game.
For me, however, this posed one particularly interesting question. I wanted to know how PS5 trophies worked in Baldur’s Gate 3 given that I was playing on a cross-save. That’s because, in some games, trophies will synchronise and automatically pop if you bring your progress across from another console.
This could, of course, save trophy hunters like myself a lot of time and provide a quick and easy path to the coveted platinum. So, do trophies auto-pop in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 with cross-saves?
Do trophies auto-pop with cross-saves in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5?
After using cross-saves in Baldur’s Gate 3, I can confirm that trophies do not auto-pop on PS5 if using cross-saves from PC. Therefore, players will need to restart the game from scratch if they want to unlock all Baldur’s Gate 3‘s trophies on PS5.
However, when using my cross-save, I learnt that trophies did unlock from the point at which I began playing on PS5. That means I can use tactically-timed saves on PC to speed up progress towards the platinum on PS5.
This method will likely come in handy for unlocking the Critical Hit trophy on PS5. This trophy requires players to “Complete the game in Tactician mode”. So, if you have a PC save near the end of a Tactician mode playthrough, you could move it over to PS5 and finish it there for a quick unlock.
With that being said, this is would be entirely dependant on whether or not you actually have a save from this point in the game (which, unfortunately, I don’t).
