This Baldur’s Gate 3 guide explains how to open the Ancient Door in the Dank Crypt.
I’m absolutely loving Baldur’s Gate 3. It might be my favourite game of 2023. But that’s not to say it isn’t without its frustrations. I’ve found the game can be deliberately vague about what you’re supposed to do to progress in certain areas. And this is usually a good thing because map and quest markers often detract from the immersion in video games.
However, in Baldur’s Gate 3, I’ve occasionally found myself wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out what I’m meant to do next. This was the case in the Dank Crypt, a mysterious underground area beneath the Chapel. After finding a large room with a sarcophagus surrounded by traps, I noticed the Ancient Door on the far side.
But I was unable to go through it and was stuck for a while as I tried to open it. Thankfully, after searching around the area and fully exploring the Dank Crypt, I was able to unlock the Ancient Door.
How to open Ancient Door in Dank Crypt (Baldur’s Gate 3)
To open the Ancient Door in the Dank Crypt, I followed these steps:
- Used a Trap Disarm Toolkit to safely unlock the Sarcophagus.
- Took the Engraved Key from the Sarcophagus and used it to unlock the Heavy Oak Doors.
- Entered the room and looted the Heavy Key from one of the dead Entombed Scribes on the floor.
- Returned to the Ancient Door and used the Heavy Key to unlock it. Alternatively, you can lockpick the Ancient Door.
Take a look at the screenshots below showing exactly how I opened the Ancient Door.
Once I unlocked and went through the Ancient Door, I arrived back on the Ravaged Beach near the Overgrown Ruins waypoint.
