This Baldur’s Gate 3 guide explains how to fix the “Can’t start the game or app” error (CE-107891-6) on PS5.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredible RPG experience. In my opinion, that is a fact. But that doesn’t mean the game isn’t without fault. In fact, BG3 has a number of bugs, glitches, and errors that risk spoiling the fun.
A number of these are related to crashes and start-up issues. With the game’s recent arrival on PS5, Larian Studios has been hard at work improving it, deploying patches, and fixing problems. Patch #3 (which was released on 22 September) was a significant update featuring numerous changes across gameplay, performance, UI, and more.
But it also inadvertently introduced new crashing errors. To resolve these, Larian Studios released update 1.003.001/Hotfix 7 on 27 September. Unfortunately, when launching the game following the installation of update 1.003.001, I was greeted with a message stating “Can’t start the game or app” accompanied by error code CE-107891-6.
It appears that update 1.003.001 somehow corrupted Baldur’s Gate 3 on my PS5. So, after spending a fair bit of time trying to get things working again, I discovered how to fix the error preventing the game from launchng. Although, I’m sorry to report that it may not be a quick fix.
How to fix “Can’t start the game or app” error for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5
I fixed the “Can’t start the game or app” error (CE-107891-6) on PS5 by deleting and reinstalling Baldur’s Gate 3.
Given its huge 110GB file size on PS5, this fix is far from ideal. But after attempting a number of smaller possible fixes, this was the only option that remained. It was clear my game was completely corrupted and unusable following the installation of update 1.003.001.
Once I had deleted the game from my PS5, I had to redownload it from the PlayStation Store. This took a while, but I simply left my PS5 in Rest Mode and went and did other things while I waited. Before too long, it had redownloaded and reinstalled and I was able to dive back into Baldur’s Gate 3. Thankfully, my saves and progress remained fully intact.
If you have encountered this issue, it may first be worth attempting to “Restore Licences” on your PS5 as this is one possible fix (although it didn’t work for me). Sometimes, if you are unable to use a game or app, it may be caused by a problem with the licences for content you have downloaded from the PlayStation Store.
By using this method, the licences will be restored and should function properly again. To do this, go to ‘Settings’, select ‘Users and Accounts’, go to ‘Other’ and select ‘Restore Licences’. Finally, select ‘Restore’. Wait for the licences to be restored and then attempt to launch the game again.
