It’s that time again! Sony has officially announced three free PlayStation Plus games for August. And it’s a strong selection this month.

The games are available across the three new PlayStation Plus tiers – Essential, Extra, and Premium. So, if you’re a PS Plus member, make sure to download them while you can.

The freebies will be available from August 2nd 2022 until September 5th 2022. That means you can still grab July’s free titles before then.

Sony has come under a lot of criticism in recent years for its lacklustre releases on PlayStation Plus. But it’s safe to say they’re being a bit more generous in August.

So, what games do Sony have lined up for PS Plus subscribers next month?

August PlayStation Plus Games

The following games will be released for free for PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium members in August. They are…

Yakuza: Like A Dragon (PS5, PS4)

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is the most recent game in the Yakuza series of RPGs. It was released in 2020 for last-gen consoles, PC and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 version arrived in March 2021. Sony’s official synopsis reads:

Level up from underdog to dragon in this action RPG. Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking grunt of a low-ranking yakuza family in Tokyo, returns to society after serving 18 years for a crime he didn’t commit. Uncover the truth behind his family’s betrayal while exploring – and fighting – your way across a modern-day Japanese city. Build a party from a ragtag group of society’s outcasts, spending time with them to unlock new abilities and combo skills. Take time off from your quest to immerse yourself in go-karting, arcade games or 50 substories.

All the pro skaters, levels, and tricks are back and fully remastered, plus more. Strengthen your skills by taking your sessions online and competing against players from around the world in multiplayer modes and live leaderboards. Play as skaters from the original roster (Tony Hawk, Kareem Campbell, Bucky Lasek, and more) or slide into the new roster made up of Olympian skaters (Nyjah Huston, Aori Nishimura, Leticia Bufoni, and more.)

The only game that’s a last-gen exclusive next month is Little Nightmares. There’s no PS5 version available here, but that’s not a problem. Little Nightmares was released in 2017 to positive reviews and is well-worth checking out. Sony’s official synopsis reads:

Immerse yourself in Little Nightmares, a dark whimsical tale that will confront you with your childhood fears! Help Six escape The Maw – a vast, mysterious vessel inhabited by corrupted souls looking for their next meal. As you progress on your journey, explore the most disturbing dollhouse offering a prison to escape from and a playground full of secrets to discover. Reconnect with your inner child to unleash your imagination and find the way out!

Only a few days remain to add July’s free games to your library, so do that before they’re gone!

Hopefully Sony continues the trend of releasing more interesting titles each month. You certainly won’t hear any complaints from us if we get free games of this calibre every time.
