Gameplay from the next instalment in the long-running franchise, Assassin’s Creed Red, will be revealed at the Ubisoft Forward event in June according to a report from Insider Gaming.
“Speaking with sources, it’s understood that content creators and the press will get hands-on during the week of Summer Games Fest, with the preview embargo lifting on June 12,” wrote Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.
Ubisoft Forward is scheduled for 10 June 2024. It will feature “exciting news on upcoming games from [Ubisoft] teams around the world!”
Codename Red is being developed by the Odyssey team at Ubisoft Quebec and will take place in Feudal Japan, a setting that has long been requested by Assassin’s Creed fans.
It will also be the first game in the series’ so-called “Period three”, which will see the introduction of the new Infinity hub.
According to the series’ executive producer, Marc-Alexis Côté, Infinity will be the “next-generation hub that will be a gateway to all the future Assassin’s Creed experiences.” He explained that it will be like “taking the Animus and putting it on your desktop.”
With the move to Infinity, all games in the series – including Red – will use the Anvil Pipeline engine. Tom Henderson explained that this means that developers have had to “completely overhaul everything in the series… including animations, its parkour system, dynamic weather, and more.”
Henderson also reports that Assassin’s Creed Red will have a male and a female protagonist, “real-life Samurai Yasuke and a female Assassin named Naoe.”
