Assassin’s Creed Insider Has Exposed Next Game’s Awesome Setting

It may not feel like it, but Assassin’s Creed Valhalla came out two years ago.

In recent years, Ubisoft have switched to a bi-yearly release cycle for the franchise. Before, it released every year. But a perceived decline in quality prompted the move.

The gap allows developers more time to conceptualise, develop and polish the games. Theoretically, this should result in a better final product.

As a result, many fans are starting to speculate what the setting of the next Assassin’s Creed game will be. After all, it’s release shouldn’t be too far away.

So far, the series has travelled to the Holy Land during the Third Crusade, Renaissance Italy, Ancient Egypt, Victorian London, and plenty in between.

However, there are still some dream settings that the series has yet to explore. Now, one reliable Twitter leaker claims to know the setting of the next game. And it’s one fans will be very excited about…

When Is The Next Assassin’s Creed Game Coming Out?

Back in June, Ubisoft confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed game could be announced by September 2022.

The final lot of content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be released later this year. Players have both Forgotten Saga (a free new game mode) and Eivor’s final story chapter to look forward to before the end of 2022.

With both of these facts in mind, a mid-2023 release date would make sense for the next Assassin’s Creed game. It would give fans much to look forward to after they are finished with the new Valhalla DLC.

Next Assassin’s Creed Setting

So, here’s the juicy Assassin’s Creed news…

The next game will reportedly have an Aztec setting, a new rumour has claimed.

This game seems to be separate from the live-service title Assassin’s Creed Infinity and will be a normal premium release.

Of course, this is just a rumour and nothing has been officially confirmed. That said, IGN described the leaker as “reliable”, saying “he has provided correct information about Ubisoft titles such as Far Cry Primal in the past.”

Journalist Jason Schreier took to Reddit to seemingly debunk the rumour. He said the next game will be Assassin’s Creed Rift which will be set in Baghdad.

In his Bloomberg article back in February, Schreier reported:

It [Assassin’s Creed Rift] will star Basim, a popular assassin character from Valhalla, and will be smaller in scope than recent games in the series, the people said. The game won’t be a massive open-world role-playing game like previous recent entries, focusing instead more on stealth gameplay, and is planned for later this year or 2023.

Until Ubisoft make an official announcement, both of these are just rumours. Personally, I would be excited to explore either of them!

Who were the Aztecs?

The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican culture that rose to prominence in what is now Central Mexico between 1300 and 1521.

The Aztec culture grew to such an extent that it became the Aztec Empire in 1428 with the confederation of three city-states Tenochtitlan, Tetzcoco, and Tlacopan.

The culture is renowned for its awe-inspiring architecture, variety of gods, and ritualistic practise of human sacrifice.

By 1521, the Aztec Empire was at war with Spanish Conquistador Hernán Cortés. This war resulted in the fall of the empire when emperor Cuauhtémoc was captured and Mexico City was founded on Tenochtitlan’s ruins.
