Assassin’s Creed has visited some of the most significant periods and places in history, and the series’ best setting is an ongoing debate amongst fans. From the enlightened cities of the Italian Renaissance to the smokey skies of Victorian London, Assassin’s Creed‘s ability to recreate the world of the past is nothing short of remarkable. And now Ubisoft has given fans the opportunity to have their say on which virtual recreation is the series’ best.
Posting to Twitter on 30 April, the official Assassin’s Creed account wrote: “The city is calling your name! Tell us which one of these three gave you endless enjoyment of exploring the city!”. The text was accompanied by a photo of Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity, Venice in Assassin’s Creed II, and London in Syndicate. Fans were asked to comment, retweet, or like to show their preferrence.
Coming out on top with a whopping 6,549 likes (and counting) was Venice from Assassin’s Creed II. That should come as no big surprise to fans of the series. AC II is widely considered to be one of the best games in the series thanks to its wondrous setting, refined mechanics, and lovable main character.
By comparison, London (one of my personal favourites from the series) attracted 809 retweets. While Paris has its fair share of supporters, it only received 467 comments. “Honestly exploring Paris is some of the most fun I’ve had in an assassins creed game,” wrote Twitter user @csteexes_91.
Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from the poll is that there is no one universal favourite setting for Assassin’s Creed fans. Probably the most popular location that wasn’t included in the tweet was Black Flag‘s Caribbean islands and sea. Twitter user @idea_obsessed said: “i prefer the open waters of black flag…”.
Like the series’ second entry, AC IV is considered to be one of the best games in the series, so it’s not surprising that many fans are expressing their love for the game’s exotic setting.
The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series is Mirage, which is scheduled to release some time this year. It takes place in Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age.
