Warzone Gets New Zombie Themed Mode – ‘Rebirth of the Dead’

Call of Duty: Warzone has been with us for almost two and a half years. In that time, fans have gotten to experience a range of different maps and modes. With Season 4 Reloaded, Warzone is getting a new zombie themed mode – Rebirth of the Dead.

Rebirth of the Dead is set to drop with Warzone Season 4 Reloaded at 5pm BST/12pm EDT/9am PDT today. And it brings a whole new world of terror and excitement to a familiar map.

So, what exactly is Rebirth of the Dead?

What is Rebirth of the Dead?

Rebirth of the Dead is set on the fan favourite Rebirth Island map.

That’s right, after disappearing at the start of Season 4, Rebirth Island is back. Except this time it has zombies. And lots of them.

Rebirth of the Dead is a new take on the classic mini-royale mode that has appeared in Warzone many times before.

The new mode is 40-player Quads and pits standard Operators against hordes of player-controlled undead.

As with previous zombie-themed modes in Warzone, all players start out as their usual Operator. However, when they die they’re respawned as zombies.

The action takes place on a haunted version of Rebirth Island that has been immersed in a late-day fog. It will be packed with jump scares, too, which should make for some hilariously spooky moments.

The biggest change is the introduction of a new Infestation mechanic which comes into play later in the game.

The new Infestation mechanic is intended to up the ante in the game’s final circles.

Marc-André Gagné, a Senior Expert System Designer at Beenox (the developers behind the new mode), explained that the new mode is intended to give players more chances to return to the game and to keep the action going for longer.

On Beenox’s three priorities for Warzone‘s Rebirth of the Dead mode, he said:

“One, we wanted to increase the opportunities for interactions between Operator and Zombies teammates. Number two was to increase the number of opportunities for players to return to the match. We wanted to keep the party going longer. And third, we wanted to increase the number of Zombies in play at once to get that feeling of truly having your back to the wall against a horde. The last two points are what inspired us to come up with the Infestation Mechanic.”

When Infestation mode kicks in, every spectator will be respawned. So, it will be worth hanging around if you’re killed in the early-game.

What else is in Rebirth of the Dead?

Zombies in the new mode aren’t the familiar slow moving meat bags that CoD fans are used to. Instead, they are fast and come with their own unique and powerful abilities.

Charged Jump: Close distances or switch up movement patterns with this fast-recharging ability. The longer you hold down the command to make a Charged Jump, the farther and higher you’ll leap.

EMP Blast: Destroy enemy electronics — including equipment like Proximity Mines, as well as vehicles and digital optics — and disable the HUD of any Operators within the blast radius.

Gas Grenade: Damage and disorient your enemies using the Gas Grenade, which spews out toxic particles in a small radius emanating from you. Great when combined with the EMP Blast and in close quarters.

Zombie Syringes are returning from previous Warzone zombies modes. For those who don’t know, zombies who collect four will be respawned as a human Operator. Two are given for killing a human and four are rewarded for performing a finisher.

However, in Rebirth of the Dead, zombies will also be able to open doors, supply boxes, and Resurgence supply boxes. This gives them a bigger advantage than they had in previous modes.

The new zombie mode is a time-limited, so be sure to jump in ASAP to avoid missing out!
