Resident Evil Village was one of the best games of 2021. It concluded Ethan Winters’ story in terrifyingly gruesome fashion and fans loved it. Now Capcom has announced new Resident Evil Village DLC – and it sounds awesome.
The eighth instalment of the long-running survival horror series is full of memorable characters and villains.
In the game, Ethan Winters goes up against Mother Miranda and her lords Lady Dimetrescu, Karl Heisenberg, Donna Beneviento, and Salvatore Moreau.
The new content will be bundled with the base game as Resident Evil Village Gold Edition but will also be released separately as Winters’ Expansion.
On top of other exciting new modes and features, the new Resident Evil Village DLC allows players to play as two of those legendary villains for the first time.
Here is everything that’s included in the new Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion…
Third Person Mode
Traditionally, Resident Evil games used third person perspective. It was a staple of the series and is part of what made its characters so memorable.
However, starting with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (the first Ethan Winters game), the series shifted to the first person perspective. This continued in Resident Evil Village.
Despite breaking from tradition, both games were well received and the first person perspective worked incredibly well by immersing players in the terror.
With the Winter’s Expansion DLC, players will get to experience Village like a classic Resident Evil game because it is adding in a new third person mode.
That’s right – you will be able to play the entire Resident Evil Village campaign in third person. What a throwback.
Shadows of Rose mode
In Resident Evil Village, Ethan Winters ventures to a mysterious European village; however, it is overrun with mutants. But he is there in search of his infant daughter, Rose. And he will stop at nothing to find her.
Shadows of Rose is a sequel to the main Village story. It allows players to take control of a grown-up Rose and experience the true extent of her supernatural powers.
Capcom explained:
To break free of the curse of her powers, she enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. There, she meets a girl who looks just like her.
They added:
In this mysterious realm of consciousness, time and space is warped beyond recognition. Rose is guided by a being who calls himself Michael, who might be of assistance with removing her powers.
Shadows of Rose can also be played in third person.
The Mercenaries: Additional Orders mode
Perhaps the most exciting new feature of the Winters’ Expansion is The Mercenaries mode.
Mercenaries mode appeared in every game since Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. However, it was absent in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the initial release of Resident Evil Village. But now the mode is making its return.
The mode has players facing off with swarms of enemies against the clock to earn unique rewards.
Most interesting, Mercenaries gives players get the chance to step into the shoes of Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu.
Chris Redfield
Chris Redfield is a series mainstay. He’s probably one of the most well known characters in all of Resident Evil.
Chris is already playable in the latter chapters of Village. But he appears once again in Mercenaries.
As a legendary hero, Chris utilizes many firearms as well as his robust strength. When you take down enemies using Chris, his Onslaught Gauge will increase. Once it’s full, you can unleash his unique onslaught mode.

Karl Heisenberg
Heisenberg is one of the most fearsome villains in Resident Evil Village. And now players get the chance to wield his colossal hammer.
This character wields a huge hammer, and also has the ability to control magnetic forces. You can charge electricity by swinging his hammer and by slamming it on the ground, then release all that energy to deal damage in a wide area.

Lady Dimitrescu
The third and final character coming to Mercenaries mode is the one-and-only Lady Dimitrescu.
She is without doubt the most recognisable character from Resident Evil Village and proved instantly popular with fans.
Standing more than nine-feet tall, Lady Dimitrescu slices through enemies with her talons. Her unique Thrill Gauge increases by attacking enemies or by using the “Lady’s Lipstick” item.

In Mercenaries mode, Lady Dimitrescu is also capable of summoning one of her vampiric daughters.
Resident Evil Village DLC Release Date
The new Resident Evil Village DLC is set for release on October 28th, 2022.
