Assassin’s Creed Origins 4K 60FPS – Update 21/12/2021

As part of the celebrations for #ACDay, Ubisoft have finally confirmed they’re working on a 60FPS patch for 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins.

The announcement was made on the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter page alongside the promise of “an exciting future for AC.”

A tweet from the official Assassin's Creed Twitter page reading "Happy #ACDay. Whether you are a longtime fan or just discovered Assassin's Creed, we want to thank you for being a part of this community. You continued support, passion & vigilance humbles us all every day. Stay tuned for more in AC Valhalla & an exciting future for AC." A follow up tweet reads, "We are looking into adding 60FPS support for Assassin's Creed Origins, so stay tuned!"

In a tweet confirming the news, they wrote, “We are also looking into adding 60FPS support for Assassin’s Creed Origins, so stay tuned!”

Ubisoft didn’t share any additional details like a targeted release date or whether the 60FPS support would be bundled with 4K resolution.

Assassin’s Creed Origins was a game changer for the long-running series. Not only did it shift the game towards the RPG genre, but it fundamentally changed the series’ combat and stealth mechanics. Whether you agreed with those changes or not, one thing it undoubtedly did well was its setting. Origins takes place in Ancient Egypt, one of the most fascinating places and periods in history. Exploring it in the game was a joy. But with the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, there could be a chance to see Egypt like never before – by way of an Assassin’s Creed Origins 4K 60fps update.

Upgrading games made for PS4 and Xbox One is important. While the new consoles are great, longer development times mean exclusive next-gen games are taking a while to reach gamers. Reliving eighth generation classics on PS5 and Xbox Series X is a great way of filling time between new releases. Assassin’s Creedy Odyssey received a 4K 60fps next-gen update earlier this year. But, thus far, AC Origins hasn’t been so lucky. So, how likely are we to receive an Assassin’s Creed Origins 4K 60fps upgrade?

Is Assassin’s Creed Origins 4K 60fps on PS5?

You’d probably think that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S would run AC Origins at 60fps. Unfortunately, they don’t. As on PS4 and Xbox One, the game is locked at 30fps on next-gen consoles. Thanks to unlocked frame rates, certain PS4 and Xbox One games automatically upscale to 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X. But with Assassin’s Creed Origins being locked, a significant patch or re-release would be required. The PS5, however, does run Origins at 1800p as the PS4 Pro did. This is higher than the 1080p possible on the base PS4. It can go as high as 3584×2016 on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X.

Will AC Origins get a PS5 upgrade?

With Odyssey getting the upgrade treatment first, you’re probably wondering if Assassin’s Creed Origins will ever get a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S upgrade. However, it’s certainly not a given. Ubisoft haven’t mentioned a potential next-gen upgrade for Origins. We’d expect that if one was coming, the Assassin’s Creed Origins 4K 60fps upgrade would’ve been announced at the same time as Odyssey‘s. But it wasn’t. And with the tight bi-yearly release schedule of Assassin’s Creed games, it might not fit into Ubisoft’s plans. Many fans hope one will come eventually. But nothing has been confirmed. It seems AC Origins PS5 and AC Origins Xbox Series X upgrades are way down on the priority list.

AC Origins PS5 60fps

In summary, Assassin’s Creed Origins doesn’t run at 60fps on PS5. It is locked at 30fps. The same goes for Xbox Series X. A PS5 upgrade to boost it up to 4K 60FPS hasn’t been confirmed and doesn’t have a release date. In fact, it’s looking pretty unlikely it will get one anytime soon. If you’re wanting to get the best out of AC Origins, a high-end PC would be your best bet. Otherwise, you’ll have to make do without the enhanced frame rate when playing on next-gen consoles.
