Skyrim is a huge game with seemingly endless character choices – including who to marry. Even 10 years since its initial release on November 11th, 2011, players are still replaying the game and discovering new things. And for that reason, it is one of the most impressive games of the 2010s. But players might not realise there are a huge number of choices when it comes to picking a spouse in the game.
Forget Tinder, Skyrim has you covered.
How To Get Married in Skyrim
Amulet of Mara
Before we look at who to marry in Skyrim, we need to explain how you get married in the game. So, the first step is to obtain the Amulet of Mara which can be found/bought at a number of places across the region of Skyrim.
Amulet of Mara Locations
- Containers – The amulet can spawn randomly in containers including chests, cabinets and dressers.
- Given by Dinya Balu – Dinya can be found in the Temple of Mara and gives you one upon starting the quest “The Book of Love”.
- Stormcloaks and Imperial Soliders – The amulet can be taken from them when killed or be pickpocketed if you prefer the non-violent approach.
- Hold Guards – As above, can be looted or pickpocketed.
- Merchants – Except weapon merchants, all sellers have a chance to have an amulet in their inventory
- Sold by Maramal for 200 Septim – the Redguard priest can be found in the Bee and Barb or the Temple of Mara in Riften.
- Labyrinthian – Can be found inside the wooden structure.
- Lover’s Tent – Northeast of the Dawnstar Sanctuary next to some Horkers (Walrus-like creatures).
Once you have the Amulet of Mara, you must ensure the requirements of the person you wish to marry have been met. That’s because each potential spouse has different requirements which will be outlined below.
Finally, once you have both the amulet and completed your potential spouse’s requirements, you must speak with Maramal at the Temple of Mara in Riften to arrange the wedding which takes place 24 hours later.
