Shadow of the Erdtree has a hidden boss beneath the map

What would Elden Ring be without its numerous hidden bosses? After all, it’s one of the best things about the game. And, naturally, Shadow of the Erdtree isn’t lacking in this department either.

Shadow of the Erdtree is a huge expansion of the base game and adds an entirely new map, almost as large as the Lands Between. There are all kinds of secrets hidden away in this vast new area, and some of them lie beneath.

At the tip of the southernmost peninsula of the Cerulean Coast is a fissure in the ground. It’s easy to miss, but if you look carefully it’s actually possible to climb down it.

Descending to the bottom opens up a large underground world known as The Fissure. And reaching the end of this area unlocks a mysterious and powerful boss that many players will miss – the Putrescent Knight.

Most interestingly of all, to get to the Putrescent Knight, players must take a leap of faith into a deep chasm. But if you jump in the wrong place, you will fall to your death.

How to find Putrescent Knight boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

To reach the Putrescent Knight, start by going to the Cerulean Coast in the south west area of the map. If you have found it, fast travel to the Cerulean Coast Cross site of grace to speed things up.

From there, go to the tip of the southernmost peninsula and you will see an opening in the ground. This is The Fissure. Use Torrent to carefully descend. Eventually, you will reach The Fissure site of grace.

Enter The Fissure here.

Follow the path towards an opening and you will enter The Fissure Depths. You will come to another site of grace. Continue along the natural path while being vigilant of enemies as you go. You should then come to one of Miquella’s crosses and the Fissure Cross site of grace.

Afterwards, it is simply a case of using your platforming skills to navigate across the collapsed buildings. There is an obvious path to follow and you are unlikely to get lost – just keep pushing forwards.

Eventually, you will come across the Spiritform of the Misbegotten Crusader. Defeat it and continue onwards – you eventually come to another site of grace surrounded by sleeping animals. Make your way to the far end of the collapsed building and onto the horned statue’s head.

Jump from this statue to reach the boss below.

Jump off it, and after a long fall you will land in a boss arena. The Putrescent Knight will appear. This grotesque skeletal knight rides a horse and wields a powerful weapon, so you may have your work cut out.
