Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will include split-screen gameplay options. However, they will not be available on last-generation consoles.
Writing in an official support article about the different editions of Black Ops 6, Activision said: “Split-screen gameplay (two players sharing a screen) for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. To ensure performance integrity, split-screen gameplay will not be supported on Xbox One or PlayStation 4.”
This news will likely disappoint fans playing on older hardware, although the revelation isn’t particularly surprising.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are almost 11 years old and last-gen versions of games are often forced to compromise on graphics and features to ensure a smoother experience overall.
While split-screen modes haven’t been a priority for developers since the Xbox 360 and PS3 era, they remain a hot topic among gamers who long for the old days of couch co-op and multiplayer.
The inclusion of split-screen in Black Ops 6 follows the trend of recent Call of Duty games also including such features for certain game modes. With that being said, Activision has not confirmed which modes will allow split-screen and fans will probably have to wait until release to find out.
