To coincide with the release of The Last of Us TV show, Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part I, a remake of the critically acclaimed first game that launched on PS5 and, for the first time, PC. Now, a new leak claims that The Last of Us Part II is also coming to PC and that the port has apparently been ready for some time.

Billbil-kun of Dealabs claims that a PC version of the game has been in development since 2021. What’s more, they say (loosely translated): “Development of the game is well finished , and this dates back to at least November 2023.”

Interestingly, The Last of Us Part II Remastered was released earlier this year on 19 January. Unlike the Part I remake, which arrived on PC as well as PS5, the Part II remaster only surfaced on Sony’s console.

It seems odd that it wouldn’t be released on PC if a port was already finished in January; however, it could be being intentionally held back to coincide with the release of the TV adaption’s second season.

While the prospect of The Last of Us Part II coming to PC might excite a lot of fans, it’s worth noting that Sony has come under fire for how it has handled some of its PC releases in recent months.

Back in May, the publisher received fierce criticism for how it handled the release of Helldivers II on PC, informing players that they would need a PlayStation Network account to continue enjoying the game months after they had first bought it. Sony later reversed the decision after the backlash.

Since then, it has emerged that both Until Dawn and God of War Ragnarok will require PSN accounts when the come to PC later this year. Presumably, players will also need a PSN account to play The Last of Us Part II on PC.

First released back in 2020, The Last of Us Part II continues the story of Joel and Ellie as they navigate a brutal post-apocalyptic world. While it proved divisive between fans who either loved or hated it, the game received overwhelming critical acclaim. We even awarded it a perfect 10/10 score and called it “a gut wrenching masterpiece”.
