Despite widespread speculation that last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would be the final game in the series on last-gen consoles, it looks like Black Ops 6 will be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One.
Posting to Reddit, u/Oufp4 shared an image that apparently shows GameStop preparing to accept pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PS4.
Like many Xbox games, the Series X/S version will seemingly be cross-gen meaning that it will be playable on Xbox One.
This news will be divisive among the Call of Duty community with many fans feeling that releasing new games on last-generation consoles holds them back from reaching their full potential on current-gen platforms. On the other hand, it means that the game will be available to those who have not yet upgraded their hardware.
By the time Black Ops 6 comes out later this year, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will be four years old. For context, 2015’s Black Ops 3 was the final entry in the series to be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 just two years after the PS4 and Xbox One debuted in November 2013.
The Call of Duty showcase is scheduled for 9 June. Fans can expect more information about the release of Black Ops 6 to be officially confirmed at the event.
