Acclaimed video game creator and founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, has announced that the studio is working on an all-new “next-generation action espionage game”.
At PlayStation State of Play on 31 January, Kojima announced that production of the new title would “begin in earnest” after Death Stranding 2.
Kojima, who created the iconic Metal Gear Solid espionage series, will be returning to the genre for the first time since 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
“We have extensive experience with Sony, having grown the espionage genre together for almost 30 years,” Kojima said. “Also, Sony not only does games, but also music and movies. It will definitely be a strong collaboration,” he continued.
Unfortunately, Kojima was light on details about the new IP. However, he said they plan to bring together cutting-edge technology and talent from around the world to make the game.
In typical Kojima fashion, he explained that the new title will be both a game and a movie at the same time. “We hope to transcend the barriers between film and video games,” he explained.
Kojima said that he is “confident that this title will be the culmination of [his] work,” before telling viewers to “stay tuned”. The camera then zoomed out to show the exterior of the Columbia Pictures lot.
It is not clear if the game will launch on the PlayStation 5 or, based on Kojima’s “next-generation” comment, a subsequent console presumably the PlayStation 6.
