Activision has announced a new enhancement for Call of Duty‘s Ricochet Anti-Cheat. The system, first introduced in 2022 alongside Modern Warfare II, is a comprehensive security initiative that monitors analytics to prevent cheating on PC.

It utilises the PC kernel-level driver to detect and report applications that attempt to interact with Call of Duty games.

This latest update to Ricochet was announced via the official Call of Duty Updates account on X. It focuses on tackling cheaters using tools to activate aim assist while using mouse and keyboard and has been deployed for Warzone, Modern Warfare II, and Modern Warfare III.

Confirming the change, Team Ricochet said: “Our security detection systems now target players using tools to activate aim assist while using a mouse and keyboard. The Call of Duty application will close if detected.”

Aim assist is a common feature in FPS games that helps players hit their targets. For example, in Call of Duty: Warzone, a light aim assist is applied when targeting enemy players.

Aim assist functions as a sort-of magnetic pull that helps keep your weapon’s sights trained on an enemy.

The benefits and drawbacks of aim assist are a hotly debated topic in the Call of Duty community. Without cheats, aim assist is unavailable with keyboard and mouse.

Therefore, some players feel it offers an unfair advantage to those using controllers. As such, various tools have been developed to trigger aim assist while using keyboard and mouse.

While many console players argue that keyboard and mouse provide intrinsically superior aiming, some PC players believe the opposite.

That debate is unlikely to be settled anytime soon. However, anyone found to be using tools to trigger aim assist will now be kicked out of the Call of Duty application.

If they wish to continue playing, they will have to restart the game. The Call of Duty Updates account also noted that “Repeated use of these tools may lead to further account action.”
