Champion’s Quest in Warzone: What is it and how does it work?

With the imminent launch of Season 1 Reloaded, the Champion’s Quest will officially return to Call of Duty: Warzone. First introduced as part of Warzone 2.0, it’s an elite mission for only the most hardened squads. But what is Champion’s Quest exactly?

Activision confirmed its return on 10 January 2024 in a Call of Duty blog post. Season 1 Reloaded will mark the quest’s debut in the Urzikstan map, having previously been available on Al Mazrah and Vondel.

Completion of the Warzone 2.0 Champion’s Quest resulted in total victory. The winning squad was titled “Warzone Champions” at the end of the match and received a number of valuable unlockables.

However, Champion’s Quest is far from easy. In fact, it’s arguably the hardest thing a player can attempt in Warzone.

If the Season 1 Reloaded announcement is the first time you’ve heard about it, you may be wondering exactly what it involves and what makes it so tough.

What is Champion’s Quest in Warzone?

The Champion’s Quest in Warzone 2.0 was only available to players after achieving five consecutive victories.

In the upcoming Season 1 Reloaded update, the quest will become available when your squad wins five matches consecutively or 30 games in total within a season.

Exact details of how the actual quest itself will work in the latest iteration of Warzone are unclear. However, Activision promise an “extremely explosive finale”, suggesting it will be similar.

In Warzone 2.0, players had to collect one of three Champion’s Quest contracts – this would begin the mission.

Players then had to collect three components (called “cores”) for a nuclear bomb within 27 minutes. In Al Mazrah, these were Beryllium, Plutonium, and Tritium.

Each core would apply a negative effect to the player carrying it. Beryllium made the player visible on the map.

Plutonium caused its carrier and surrounding players damage and distorted vision. And Tritium caused the mini-map to scramble and disabled vehicles.

Once each core was collected, they had to be taken to a nuclear bomb case at a random location. Players then had five minutes to insert the cores (similar to plating a bomb in Search & Destroy).

After the cores were inserted, your squad had to defend the armed nuke from other players for two minutes.

Ending and rewards

The Champion’s Quest ends if you successfully prevent the nuke from being defused by enemy players. If successful, the nuke will explode and a nuclear flash will fill the screen.

A brief cinematic of the explosion will play and the words “Warzone Champions” appear on-screen.

Across previous seasons, players received a combination of operators skins, emblems, calling cards, weapon charms and stickers, blueprints, and vehicle skins as rewards.

The rewards for completing the quest in Urzikstan have not been revealed by Activision. It is likely that these will only be known once someone has completed it for the first time.
