Warzone players plea for low KD lobbies to make game more fun

Call of Duty: Warzone players are begging for low KD (kill-death ratio) lobbies to help make it more enjoyable. The battle royale game, which uses CoD‘s controversial skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) system, is often criticised for placing players in lobbies that are too challenging.

While Activision has been tight-lipped about how SBMM works ever since its introduction, CoD fans have long-speculated that it actually serves to ‘punish’ players who do well.

It is widely believed that if you play well in one game of Warzone, you will be placed into a lobby with superior players in your next game. As a result, you are likely to perform worse and struggle to compete.

This has led to growing frustration among those who believe the lobbies they are placed in aren’t suitable for their skill level. They argue that this spoils the fun for casual players and makes the game too hard for those who can only play a couple of times a week.

Posting to Reddit, user u/L0Ki127 asked if there is “anyway to get lower kd lobbies?” They continued: “The SBMM in this game thinks I am way better than I am. I keep getting super sweat lobbies with people with 12-13 kills doing super slide cancelling, jumping drop shotting headshots. It’s not fun for me. I love this game and I like playing but it’s not fun to just get completely destroyed 10 games in a row.”

Other Reddit users quickly jumped on to the thread and agreed. User u/jthom711 commented: “This is me too man. I swear I’m just your average warzone weekend player but end up in lobbies with nothing but sweats. F**kin not missing [a] single [shot]. Killing me from miles away like nothing. If I make it to top 5 I’ll have 4 kills at ABSOLUTE best and everyone else [is] in the 10s. It’s ridiculous”.

Loadouts are clumped together. Almost EVERYONE camps [buy stations] and roofs. Kill streak spam, almost everyone has multiple self revives. It’s very very rough most of the time.”

Another Redditor even suggested that playing with a reduced squad size can help you enter easier lobbies. “Sounds unorthodox but try duos as a solo with squad fill off. It puts you in easier lobbies because you have a numerical disadvantage plus if you improve at fighting 2v1 it helps a lot”, they said.

Others chimed in to share some possible solutions to enter low KD lobbies in Warzone. “Just play like s**t for a few [games]”, wrote one player, “When I was going for interstellar camo I had a .91 k/d and some games I had 13 kills and 40 deaths. I had the bot lobby. But I noticed if I was doing good for 2 games the next game would be super sweaty.”

Whatever the answer to SBMM is, it’s clear that players are growing tired of what they perceive to be overly challenging lobbies. For now, though, it seems the only real solution is to improve your overall skill to better compete against players of all ability levels.
