This Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies (MWZ) guide explains how to get a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod.
After a successful multiplayer beta and a not-so successful campaign, the full version of MW3 has arrived. The complete package comes with the very first Zombies experience in Modern Warfare history. The mode essentially repurposes DMZ and features a multitude of missions for players to complete.
One of these is “Freezer Burn”. This mission is the first Tier 3 mission of Act I. It requires players to slow 50 zombies with the Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod. Once that’s done, you need to slow 10 Hellhounds with the same mod.
In MWZ, ammo mods provide different elemental effects for weapons when equipped. As its name suggests, Cryo Freeze freezes zombies and slows them down. Unfortunately, getting a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod isn’t exactly straightforward – especially if you’re new to MWZ.
So, how exactly do you get one in MWZ for the “Freezer Burn” mission?
How to get a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod in Modern Warfare Zombies
The easiest way to get a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod is to complete Aether Nests. These can be found at various locations throughout Urzikstan and have their own marker on the tac-map.
When you reach an Aether Nest, you must clear it out by shooting the glowing yellow cysts on the walls. Once every cyst has been destroyed, the noxious gas they emit will dissipate.
Loot caches covered in aether crystals will also be unlocked. Loot them and inside will be a random selection of ammo mods, possibly including Cryo Freeze.
However, you should note that you are not guaranteed to get Cryo Freeze and you may need to complete multiple Aether Nests. When we were searching for Cryo Freeze, we had to complete three Aether Nests.
It’s also worth pointing out that you may already have Cryo Freeze. It is given as a reward for completing the “Take Up Arms” mission in Tier 1. To check if you have it, go to ‘Gear’, select an inventory slot in your rucksack, select ‘Acquisition Stash’, then tab across to ‘Rewards’. It will be listed here if you have one already.
Once you have the ammo mod required, you can equip it to your weapon of choice and use it to complete the Freezer Burn objectives.
