Just over one year ago, Better Call Saul aired its final episode. It brought 14 years of incredible television to a close. But its predecessor series has risen from the dead in the form of a Breaking Bad 2 trailer. Featuring the returns of numerous fan-favourite characters and promising a surreal storyline, fans have reacted with incredible positivity to the insane-looking Breaking Bad sequel series.

The trailer – which includes Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Anna Gunn, and many others – was shared on YouTube on 22 August 2023. It has since garnered significant interest and attracted more than 1.5 million views.

However, for fans of the critically-acclaimed series, the new trailer will raise a number of questions. And there’s one question we should probably answer before we go any further.

Is the Breaking Bad 2 trailer real?

The Breaking Bad 2 trailer is not real. It is a fan-made trailer by YouTube content creator Chubs.

Chubs has uploaded numerous other Breaking Bad-inspired parody videos, such as “Walter Kills Elon Musk”, “Lalo doesn’t kill Howard”, “Skylar meets the Batman Mob”, and more.

The ‘trailer’ is comprised of many different clips from Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and El Camino. It also includes footage from other television shows and movies starring actors from the Breaking Bad franchise.

What happens in the Breaking Bad 2 trailer?

The trailer for Breaking Bad 2 sets up a supposed sequel series for Breaking Bad. For those that don’t know, Breaking Bad aired from 2008-2013 and told the story of a high school chemistry teacher’s transformation from meek and mild family man to ruthless drug lord.

The Breaking Bad 2 trailer begins with a mock introduction from Bryan Cranston who counts down to it starting.

Walter White is shown to have survived the final episode of the original series, meanwhile Hank climbs out of the grave that Jack Welker’s gang buried him in.

The trailer quickly descends into madness and comedy. Highlights include fake clips of Hank informing Marie (via Walt Jr.’s computer) that he isn’t dead after all, Saul representing Walt in jail, and Jesse evading law enforcement in sports cars.

Later in the trailer, Saul is shown fighting street thugs (using clips from Nobody), Skylar confronts gangsters, and Lyle from Los Pollos Hermanos develops super powers.

As the trailer ends, Heath Ledger’s Joker appears in Saul Goodman’s office and informs him they must “kill the Batman.”

Fans react to Breaking Bad 2 trailer

Reactions to fan-made trailers are often mixed. But Breaking Bad fans have reacted surprisingly well to the mock trailer, with the overwhelming majority giving it high praise.

@Kindred008 commented: “This is really well made. I love how the further along the trailer gets the more unrealistic it becomes”. @jeremytewari3346 said: “I love how Hank slowly morphs into the main antagonist while Walt is a sad broken man”.

And the praise didn’t stop there. @MillerTheOriginal said: “This is 100% better than most trailers that come out these days. Well played sir”. @BRG13DEAN commented: “I’m not even mad I rushed into this like an imbecile. I experienced every single emotion while watching this masterpiece.”

Admiring Breaking Bad‘s thriving legacy, @v1rtuasharky615 noted: “It’s amazing how this whole show is still kicking even 15 years later”.

While we may be slightly disappointed that a Breaking Bad sequel series isn’t being made, this trailer is a clear testament to just how beloved the franchise is. And it’s always great to see fresh Breaking Bad content, even if it is fan-made.
