Call of Duty news is like clockwork. Every year, there are rumours that classic CoD maps will be featured in the upcoming game. These whispers often lead to disappointment. But, if new reports are to be believed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III‘s (MW3) multiplayer will be made up entirely of remastered maps from 2009’s CoD: MW2.
This will be music to the ears of long-time Call of Duty fans. The original Modern Warfare 2 is often regarded as the pinnacle of CoD and its maps are fondly remembered.
Particular highlights included Afghan, Favela, Highrise, Rust, and Terminal just to name a few. Alongside credible reports of numerous returning features (including mini map red dots and slide cancelling), it appears that developer Sledgehammer Games hopes to deliver a fan-pleasing home run with Modern Warfare III.
Classic Call of Duty MW2 maps in CoD MW3
The news of Modern Warfare III‘s remastered MW2 maps comes courtesy of @el_bobberto on X (Twitter). The Call of Duty leaker posted: “As of now, every MWIII launch map is a remastered MW2 (2009) map.”
The leak was soon picked up and shared by reputable Call of Duty news accounts, including ModernWarzone and CharlieIntel, adding to the credibility of the report.
CharlieIntel noted that this means MW3 will “include Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass, and Wasteland.”
Of course, fans should take this news with a pinch of salt until Activision make an official announcement. However, with Modern Warfare III‘s launch fast approaching, we shouldn’t have to wait long for confirmation.
The remastered Modern Warfare 2 maps from 2009 will reportedly be available in Modern Warfare III‘s multiplayer on day one. The game is set to launch on 10th November 2023.
