Skyrim is almost 12 years old. But it remains one of the most popular video games available today. Much of its enduring success can be attributed to its incredible support for mods. They help keep it fresh thanks to a constant stream of new user-created content. Every month, countless new Skyrim mods are made and published. While many are overlooked, there are some true standouts that are worthy of being downloaded and included in your long list of installed mods.

In this article, we want to bring attention to some of the most interesting and exciting new Skyrim mods every month. That’s because as long as Skyrim is around, modders will be hard at work creating unique and awe-inspiring new content for it.

With that in mind, which mods are worth checking out this month?

New Skyrim mods – Top 5 in August 2023

1. Switch Camera During Dialogue

It may not sound like much, but this mod from jayserpa has the potential to be a game-changer. “Switch Camera During Dialogue” does exactly what it says on the tin. It allows players to switch the camera to the third-person perspective during dialogue interactions with NPCs.

In the vanilla version of Skyrim, you are unable to change the camera perspective during conversations. However, with this mod, players can simply press “F” to see their character and surroundings.

This lightweight mod is also compatible with controllers and its hotkey can be changed (if you feel so inclined).

2. Hire anyone to be your follower

Ever encountered an NPC that you’d love to have as a companion? Don’t want to spend time inputting console commands to make it happen? With “Hire anyone to be your follower” by FalloutFan298, you can pay any NPC 500 Gold and they will follow you.

This mod works on up to 10 NPCs (including guards and Jarls), so you can build a clan of followers with practically anyone you encounter in Skyrim.

3. Civil War Battlefields all across Skyrim

Apparently, Skyrim is in the midst of a civil war. But when you’re exploring its vast open-world, there is little evidence to suggest that war is raging.

That changes with “Civil War Battlefields all across Skyrim” also from FalloutFan298. This mod adds more than a dozen battlefields to Skyrim, featuring clashes between Imperials and Stormcloaks.

While the battlefields are randomly placed, they are marked on your map and can be fast-travelled to. The soldiers will fight until one side emerges victorious, however you can intervene and take part in the fighting if you want to influence the outcome.

NPCs also have different weapons and will drop loot for you to collect once the battle has ended.

4. Raptors (Prehistoric Content Series)

While this mod won’t be for everyone, it’s undeniably unique. Coming from seasoned modder BirbWalker21, “Raptors (Prehistoric Content Series)” adds raptors to Skyrim.

The raptors found in Skyrim “are covered in feathers meant to protect [them] from the frigid climate.” They also “vary from being as small as turkeys to being the size of very large bears” and can often be found hunting in packs.

There are three types of raptors included in the mod: Forest, Alpine, and Plains. As its name suggests, the Raptors mod is part of BirbWalker21’s Prehistoric Content Series (which includes a variety of other creatures). Therefore, it’s well worth pairing this mod with other mods in the series for an awesome prehistoric experience.

5. Higher Poly Vanilla Horses

If you’re a fan of the vanilla horses in Skyrim but are fed up of looking at their tired models, “Higher Poly Vanilla Horses” is the mod for you.

Pieter82 has given Skyrim’s standard equines “a bit of a facelift” by increasing their polygon count and smoothing their meshes. While another mod is also required for “Higher Poly Vanilla Horses” to work, anyone wanting to enhance the look of their in-game horses should check this one out.
