Final Fantasy XVI: Belphegor location and how to defeat it

This Final Fantasy XVI guide provides the location of the Belphegor notorious mark and explains how to defeat it.

Final Fantasy XVI‘s first 10-15 hours are largely linear and give you little incentive to explore the game’s world.

Initially, the focus is almost entirely on the main story quest and Clive Rosfield’s revenge mission. When his brother Joshua is killed by a mysterious Eikon (magical creatures that possess human hosts called Dominants) Clive is determined to avenge him.

After a significant moment in FF16‘s story (which I won’t spoil, for obvious reasons), the game provides you with more reasons to venture out into Valisthea and uncover its secrets.

While the game’s side quests aren’t exactly groundbreaking or even particularly memorable, players are sure to have fun with the hunt board.

The hunt board is accessible at the Hideaway, where you can interact with it by talking to Nektar the Moogle. It provides a list of dangerous creatures called “Notorious Marks” which need to be located and slain.

These creatures are graded, e.g. C-rank, B-rank, and so on. This indicates their strength and difficulty. In return for defeating a notorious mark, you will receive Gil and Renown as a reward (as well as additional spoils after the fight).

One of the initial hunts available to players is Belphegor, which is a B-rank notorious mark. It is a dragon-like aevis creature which is making its nest near Eastpool in The Broken Hilt, Rosaria. But its exact location is a mystery and you must find it for yourself. So, where is it?

This is where to find Belphegor in Final Fantasy XVI

Belphegor is located southeast of the Eastpool obelisk on top of a hill. Its exact location is shown in the image below:

To reach it, fast travel to the Eastpool obelisk. Head southeast to The Broken Hilt. On the map, you will see the southeastern arm of The Broken Hilt. At its southernmost point (the dead end) is the hill on which Belphegor is nesting.

As you make your way there, you should spot some windmills in a field. There is a path ahead which leads to the top of the hill. Make you way up it and defeat the enemies you encounter along the way.

At the top of the hill is the Belphegor.

How to defeat Belphegor in FF16

Prepare yourself for a challenging fight – Belphagor is very aggressive and uses quick and powerful attacks with fireballs, its claws and tail, and even dragon fire breath.

Your best bet is to stay mobile and continually dodge it while waiting for openings. You should be able to utilise precision dodges against its claw attacks to fit in counter attacks of your own.

Once Belphegor is defeated, you will be rewarded with 10,000 Gil and 20 Renown. As part of the post-fight spoils, you will also receive a Dragon Talon which can be used for crafting.
