During Starfield Direct, fans were treated to the most in-depth look at Starfield yet. The long-awaited space RPG is being touted as “25 years in the making” by Bethesda — and it certainly looks that way. Starfield‘s scope is undeniably huge. And one feature that looks particularly exciting is the game’s ships. But players may want to know exactly what you can do in the ship in Starfield. Is it just for spaceflight or is there more to it?

We already know that players will be able to customise and upgrade ships to their liking. Bethesda has also confirmed that players can hire a crew to help run their ship.

Players will interact with ship technicians at the game’s space ports. This is where you purchase, sell, and modify ships. There is also a variety of ships available that will suit different types of missions – from bounty hunting to transporting cargo.

Pretty much every aspect of Starfield‘s ships are customisable. You can make them look however you want (Bethesda even built one that resembles Optimus Prime).

According to Bethesda, customising your ship doesn’t just effect its exterior and stats. It also impacts what you’re able to do inside it.

What can you do in the ship in Starfield?

In Starfield, there are a variety of things you can do and facilities you can use inside the ship. These include:

  • Weapon storage and displays
  • Living quarters
  • Cargo holds
  • Mess halls
  • Control rooms
  • Crafting (using crafting modules)

While it remains to be seen to what extent players can use all of the facilities inside Starfield‘s ships, we can’t wait to find out more.

We already know that companions can join you on your ship as part of your crew. But exactly how they will go about their daily lives on the ship is currently unclear.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more about Starfield‘s ships ahead of the game’s launch on 6th September 2023.
