It is almost here! AEW Double or Nothing is set to air live on PPV from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas later today. As always with AEW pay-per-views, the show has a stacked card. From the Anarchy in the Arena match between the BCC and The Elite to the Four Pillars four-way match for the AEW World Championship, there’s a lot to look forward to. However, one match is leaving fans scratching their heads and asking “what is the Blackjack Battle Royale?”

The Blackjack Battle Royale is set to feature 21 wrestlers and will be contested for Orange Cassidy’s AEW International Championship.

AEW is well known for their casino-themed match types. Previous Double or Nothing shows have played host to the Casino Battle Royale and the Casino Ladder Match. However, the Blackjack Battle Royale is completely new and the official rules have not been announced.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t take an educated guess at what the Blackjack Battle Royale will entail. So, let’s take a look at two formats that this twist on the classic match-type might take.

What is the Blackjack Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing?

1. Twist on the Casino Battle Royale

The most likely format for the Blackjack Battle Royale will be a twist on the Casino variant. This is because both matches feature 21 competitors and the format is an AEW staple.

In the Casino Battle Royale, five wrestlers start, and five more enter every three minutes. The groups are based on suits that they draw from a deck of cards. That means each wrestler is assigned either clubs, diamonds, hearts, or spades. The order of entry is determined on a random draw of the cards. The 21st entrant is the wrestler who drew the joker card. The winner then receives an AEW World Championship match.

If the Blackjack Battle Royale takes this form, it is likely that Orange Cassidy will enter last as the defending AEW International Champion – the “blackjack”. The winner of the battle royale will win the AEW International Championship instead of getting an opportunity at the world title.

2. Twist on the Royal Rumble

The most famous variant of the traditional battle royale is WWE’s Royal Rumble match. It usually features 30 wrestlers who enter sequentially depending on their assigned numbers at approximate two minute intervals. The winner is the last wrestler in the ring after all others have been tossed over the top rope.

Of course, the name “Royal Rumble” is a trademark of WWE. So, if AEW wanted to do a similar match, they would have to choose a different name.

It is possible that the Blackjack Battle Royale will be a 21-man Royal Rumble style match where each wrestler is assigned an entry number. This could be determined by wrestlers drawing cards from a deck. The final competitor – entering at position 21 – will be the “blackjack”. The winner will be declared the AEW International Champion.

Who is in the Blackjack Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing?

The Blackjack Battle Royale for Orange Cassidy’s AEW International Championship will featured 21 AEW wrestlers.

They are: Orange Cassidy, Ricky Starks, The Butcher, The Blade, Bandido, Komander, Lee Moriarty, Big Bill, Ari Daivari, Tony Nese, Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, Kip Sabian, Rey Fénix, Penta El Zero Miedo, Swerve Strickland, Brian Cage, Jay White, Juice Robinson, Keith Lee, and Dustin Rhodes.
