At last, Assassin’s Creed fans have finally been treated to a proper look at the series next instalment. After a three-year wait since the last game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released on 12th October 2023. But who is the main character in Assassin’s Creed Mirage and where is it set?
Before we get into that, it is worth noting that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to take the series back to its stealth roots. After the mixed response to 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Ubisoft decided to take the series in a different direction.
Beginning with 2017’s Origins, Assassin’s Creed titles morphed from stealth action games into open world role-playing games. While these titles have been successful, much of the fan base hoped the franchise would one day return to the style of gameplay that first made it popular.
Enter Mirage. During the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, a gameplay reveal trailer was shown. And it looks like fans can expect the stealth, combat, and parkour the earlier games were known for.

Who is the main character in Assassin’s Creed Mirage?
The main character in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Basim Ibn Ishaq. He is a Hidden One and was born in 835 in Samarra, Abbasid Caliphate (present-day Iraq).
Basim first appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla where he assisted Eivor’s Viking colony in Ravensthorpe, Leicestershire, England during their pursuit of the Order of the Ancients.
He is described in Mirage as a “cunning street thief seeking answers and justice” whose story begins as a “conflicted young orphan with a tragic past [who] must navigate the streets to survive.” Basim “admires the Hidden Ones, and dreams of joining them.”
Where is Assassin’s Creed Mirage set?
The game is set in Baghdad in the Abbasid Caliphate during the 9th century Islamic Golden Age. During this time period, Baghdad was one of the most important cities in the world economically, culturally, and scientifically.
