Since the launch of Fortnite Creative 2.0, horror fans have been hard at work building spooky maps for players to enjoy. Unreal Editor For Fortnite (UEFN) – Creative 2.0’s official name – provides Fortnite creators with greater control and creative liberty than ever thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5. As a result, we’ve received a Backrooms-inspired map and one featuring a scary doll. Both went viral on social media. But now, a Fortnite horror map starring a carrot (of all things) has gotten people talking once again.
The new map – called “Carrot Nightmare” – bears resemblance to the legendary P.T. Hideo Kojima’s critically-acclaimed “playable teaser” was designed as an interactive demo-of-sorts for a new Silent Hill game called “Silent Hills”. It featured The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus as the playable character and was a joint collaboration between Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Ultimately, Silent Hills was cancelled following Kojima’s controversial departure from Konami. It is no longer available to play.
In P.T., the player awakens in a corridor inside a house. As the player attempts to explore and leave, the corridor simply repeats and they are trapped in an infinite loop with only minor, increasingly sinister, changes. Players are also pursued by a ghost named Lisa. She is presumed to have been killed in an act of familicide hinted at throughout the playable teaser.
Carrot Nightmare is strikingly similar in that it features a spooky house and winding corridors that seem to repeat. However, rather than ghostly Lisa, players are pursued by a giant haunting carrot monster.
After waking up in a corridor, players go into the kitchen and are instructed to dispose of a carrot. However, this incites the terrifying root vegetable to hunt the player down.
