This guide explains how to escape the Depths and defeat the Verdugo in Resident Evil 4 remake.

Chapter 10 in Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the game’s lengthier segments. While the chapter is called “The Ballroom”, a significant portion of it is spent in the Depths.

The Depths are long, winding, and dark. Escaping them seems a daunting task. And to make matters worse, they lead into the Underground Laboratory where players will encounter a fierce boss.

For a detailed walkthrough of how to escape, check out the steps below.

How to escape the Depths in Resident Evil 4 remake

This is how to escape the Depths in Resident Evil 4 remake:

Follow the highlighted path on the map by heading east. Once you reach the north east corner, continue south for a short time. You will see a Novistador run out ahead. Follow it by turning right and crouching through a small gap.

When you emerge, you will see a light ahead. Go left and Novistador will leap out at you. Kill it and continue ahead before going left up some stairs. Once you reach the top of the stairs, walk to the edge and drop down. Go right and follow the path round.

Watch out for Novistadors jumping out the water. You will reach a path heading north east – follow it. When you reach the building ahead, you will see some steps leading to a gate. Go past these. Another Novistador will attack. Once it’s dead, continue ahead to another set of steps and go up these before turning left into the building. There is a partially collapsed wall. Kick it down and squeeze through.

Collect a yellow herb in this room and then climb the ladder in the corner. Continue ahead into another tunnel and follow it all the way around. Go through a gate and you will see the Merchant’s flame ahead. Stop off here for any supplies. You may wish to purchase a Rocket Launcher, which will make an upcoming boss encounter far easier.

Don’t miss the note next to the door!

Continue ahead through the door at the end of the tunnel and into the Underground Laboratory. Grab the note on the wall next to the door advising about the liquid nitrogen showers.

Where to go in the Underground Laboratory

On the way down the main tunnel, you will see a button to activate the liquid nitrogen showers. Go past the button and turn right. Walk through the gate ahead and go to the elevator. A note will inform you the circuit breaker must be flipped to activate it. Head through the nearby door to leave the room.

The game will cut to the red vision of a mysterious enemy that’s hunting you. It’s a Verdugo – a personal bodyguard of Ramón Salazar.

Continue following the corridor around and you will pass another button on your left. Turn right and progress down the main tunnel. Next, go right through a gate into a side room. Pull a lever in here to open the large door ahead. Exit the room and go through the large open door.

Head for the Circuit Breaker.

A tentacle will appear and strike you. Try to evade it. Once it has gone, continue ahead into the room at the far end. The circuit breaker is in here in the north east corner. Watch out for the tentacle again before making your way to the circuit breaker. Flip the switch and power will be restored.

How to defeat the Verdugo

As you go to leave the room, the Verdugo will appear and block your path. Head back towards the circuit breaker but turn right this time. There is a liquid nitrogen shower here. Lure the creature in and hit the button. This will temporarily stun and blind it. Use this opening to shoot it.

Freeze it to deal some serious damage.

Once it recovers, it will continue to pursue you. Head towards the exit and turn the wheel to open the door back to the main tunnel. The elevator will activate so head back in that direction. The creature’s tail will appear and swing for you, so evade it if you can and then take the left turn.

Get ready for the beast to reappear and hit the button. Use this chance to shoot it and then head back into the elevator room. Head straight back out the room and into the main corridor.

Run right back to the entrance to the Underground Laboratory and the Verdugo will reappear. Turn back around and lure it into the nitrogen shower again to inflict more damage.

Freeze the Verdugo multiple times.

Run away and wait for it to reappear again. Lure it to the shower in the corridor south east of the circuit breaker room. This should be enough to finally finish it off. Collect the Gold Monocle it drops and head to the elevator to escape the Depths and Underground Laboratory.
