British developer Splash Damage has teamed up with streamers Shroud and Sacriel to create a new online multiplayer survival game – codenamed Project Astrid – the trio have announced.

In a new announcement trailer, Mike ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek and Chris ‘Sacriel’ Ball said that they have gotten together to make “the best game ever”.

Lance Winter, creative director at Splash Damage, said: “We’ve got the ability to do something really new in survival, build an IP from the ground up, and that’s a one in a million opportunity. Hopefully this is gonna be a one in a million game.”

Sacriel explained that he has wanted to create his own video game for a while. “One of my dreams for the last few years has been to go on Twitch and see people playing a game that I’ve been part of,” he said.

A partnership with Shroud presented an ideal opportunity to realise the project, so Sacriel got in touch.

Shroud explained: “Funny enough, how we got here is a message from Sacriel. Long message kinda saying like, “What if we reached out and tried to make a game together?”… I hit him with like three words, “Yeah, I’m down.””

The Project Astrid announcement trailer doesn’t show any in-game footage nor does it touch on specific features that players can expect in the game. However, Sacriel mentioned that Splash Damage were already developing a game “with the majority of features Mike [Shroud] and I were working on.”

The trailer did not include a tentative release window, so the game’s launch appears to be quite a way off.

Lance Winter said that players can expect a unique survival gaming experience in Project Astrid because it will bring “the experience and the knowledge that Sacriel and Shroud provide within the survival genre” and combine it with the “20 plus years of expertise we have at building awesome shooters within Splash Damage.”

Splash Damage has previously worked on the Gears of War, Halo, and Batman Arkham series of games.
