Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II arrived back in October after months (years, even) of anticipation. So far, players have been pretty divided on the game. But one thing unites CoD fans – a shared love of Zombies mode. So, will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 get a Zombie mode?
It should be stressed that fan reception to CoD MW2 has been mixed. Some are loving its more grounded and realistic approach to combat. Others miss the distinctly arcadey feel of previous Call of Duty games.
Similarly, some players aren’t keen on Warzone 2.0 and the numerous changes it introduced. DMZ, on the other hand, has become something of a fan-favourite game mode.
And while players are enjoying the game’s weapons, the new weapon progression and unlock system has proven controversial.
November, December, and January saw a notable decline in Modern Warfare II player numbers. The launch of Season 2 was subsequently delayed to 15 February.
Activision is clearly trying to right some of MW2‘s wrongs, stating: “”Our studio teams have been making several changes based on what we heard from our player community.”
However, for some fans, the return of the ever-popular Zombies mode could help restore their interest in Modern Warfare 2.
But will there ever be a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Zombie mode and what do we know about it?
Will There Be A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Zombie Mode?
Call of Duty‘s first foray into Zombies was 15 years ago in World at War. And the mode has developed significantly since then.
The mode has its own storyline, lore, characters, and easter eggs. And it has a large and dedicated fanbase. While it is most closely associated with Treyarch’s Call of Duty games, Zombies has also appeared in some non-Treyarch games.
However, the mode is yet to be part of a Modern Warfare game. This brings us to the most recent instalment in the series – Modern Warfare II.
Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 get a Zombie mode? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not receive a Zombies mode. We know this because developer Infinity Ward previously confirmed there would be no Zombies in the game.
Some supposed leaks have suggested a Zombies mode may one day be released. However, these should be viewed as unsubstantiated rumours unless Infinity Ward confirms otherwise.
If a Zombies mode was planned, it’s likely we would’ve heard more about it by now. Plus, it stands to reason that adding yet another mode to Modern Warfare 2 will only distract Infinity Ward from multiplayer, Warzone 2.0, and DMZ.
And given the recent player drop-off and numerous complaints about Warzone, Infinity Ward’s full attention should be on getting those modes into the best state possible.
