Hogwarts Legacy is just under one month away. And it has now been revealed that the game has a blockbuster actor in a top role – Mission: Impossible and the Cornetto Trilogy’s Simon Pegg. But who is Simon Pegg in Hogwarts Legacy?
The new video game will launch on 10 February 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It is set in the Wizarding World and is based on Warner Bros. Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies.
Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1890s and follows a fifth year student who is starting their Hogwarts adventure later than other students.
The player character is given a special field guide by the Ministry of Magic. They’re also capable of wielding an unknown form of magic and have knowledge of an “ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart”.
The game features an open-world which will allow the player to explore the entirety of Hogwarts, including its Great Hall and unique common rooms. What’s more, players will also be able to head out into the grounds and surrounding settlements like Hogsmead.
Being set one hundred years before the Harry Potter movies, Hogwarts Legacy features a whole new cast of teachers and students. Although, popular supporting characters like Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves, and The Fat Lady will appear in the game.
On 11 January, the official Hogwarts Legacy YouTube channel posted a video revealing that Simon Pegg will be in the new game. But who is Simon Pegg in Hogwarts Legacy?

Being a brand new game in the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise, it’s only natural that a big-time British actor would appear in Hogwarts Legacy.
In the video reveal, Simon Pegg said, “I’m extremely excited to be part of the Harry Potter universe. I watched all those movies and always expected a role. Virtually every British actor has been in the Wizarding World films apart from me. And so, to get the role… That’s a cool thing.”
Who is Simon Pegg in Hogwarts Legacy? Simon Pegg voices Phineas Nigellus Black, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, in Hogwarts Legacy.
Phineas Black is the great-great grandfather of well-known characters Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Narcissa Malfoy.
“We saw Phineas in the books and in the films. He was a portrait in Dumbledore’s office. But this is at a time when he was actually actively the headmaster,” Pegg explained.
He elaborated, “Phineas Nigellus Black is the least popular headmaster in the history of Hogwarts. He is sort of pompous, disinterested… He’s not a good teacher or headmaster in anyway…. He’s just a bit of an idiot, really.”
