The Game Awards 2022 delivered a slew of big announcements. And one reveal in particular got Call of Duty fans excited. Players got their very first glimpse of Raids in Modern Warfare II. But that left one big question on everyone’s minds. What are raids in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?
It’s been an action-packed couple of months for Call of Duty. First, players got to experience Modern Warfare 2‘s solid campaign early. Multiplayer launched on 28th October, and Season 01 kicked off just a few weeks ago.
Players immediately got stuck into Warzone 2.0 – which revamped the franchise’s battle royale formula significantly – and have been enjoying the brand-new DMZ mode.
Now we know Raids are coming. They’ll launch on 14th December as part of Season 01 Reloaded.
Activision say players can expect to put their “precision, teamwork and mind to the test” and has told fans to “Get ready for a whole new way to experience Call of Duty.”
But aside from a brief one-minute trailer shown at The Game Awards, Activision has shared little about Raids.
This means many fans will want to know what they can expect from yet another new Call of Duty game mode.

What are Raids in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?
Raids will debut in Modern Warfare 2 at the start of Season 01 Reloaded. They’ll also be split into episodes. Exactly what this means is unclear, however we do know the first one which will launch on 14th December is called “Atomgrad”.
The game mode will reportedly be part of Special Ops and continue the campaign’s storyline. We’re not sure quite how this will play out, however with more Raid episodes promised we can expect further continuation of MW2‘s plot in the near future.
So, what are Raids in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? Activision describe Raids as “a whole new experience for the franchise — a three-player cooperative engagement requiring teamwork and strategic, puzzle-solving thinking in-between bouts of intense combat.”
Activision has also recommended that players complete “all three Special Ops missions with three stars and have at least one Kit leveled up to Rank 5 before Raids”.
Release dates for future Raid episodes are yet to be confirmed, however it’s reasonable to assume they will drop alongside seasonal updates.
