This guide answers: “What are Strongholds?” in Warzone 2.0.

More than two and half years have passed since the launch of the original Call of Duty: Warzone. Millions of players have passed through Verdansk and Caldera, and thousands of hours have been spent fleeing the dreaded gas. But now Warzone 2.0 has arrived at last – and it has brought some big changes with it.

The revamped battle royale mode introduces a brand-new map. Gone are Verdansk and Caldera. Now fans can look forward to dropping in to Al Mazrah for the first time.

Al Mazrah is set to incorporate many of the locations from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II‘s multiplayer and campaign modes.

Warzone 2.0 will not only give players a new map to explore. It will also introduce a host of new gameplay features.

These include a new 2v2 Gulag, Circle Collapse, new vehicles, and a dedicated 3rd person playlist. On top of that, Warzone 2.0 is also set to feature the brand-new DMZ mode – Call of Duty‘s take on Escape from Tarkov.

Warzone 2.0 is also making some more minor changes to the way things work in battle royale. Many of which players might not even notice for weeks to come.

Strongholds are new in Warzone 2.0 as well. They appear towards the end of the first circle.

However, the game doesn’t make it explicitly clear what Strongholds are or why you should visit them.

So, let’s answer the question: “What are Strongolds in Warzone 2.0?”

What Are Strongholds in Warzone 2.0

Like many things that have been added to Warzone over the last couple of years, Strongholds have received a bit of a mixed reception.

Nonetheless, completing Strongholds offers clear benefits as they are highly valuable locations that will give a big boost to your squad.

So, what are Strongholds in Warzone 2.0?

Warzone 2.0 What are Strongholds

Strongholds are areas filled with AI enemy soldiers. There are 77 possible strongholds in the game; however, only three spawn in at a given time.

When players arrive at a Stronghold they are given an objective. This objective could be to clear out all enemies or to defuse a bomb, for example.

When the objective is complete, players can open a special loot crate. That crate often drops rare loot like Durable Gas Masks and 3-Plate Armor Vests. Best of all, they also allow you to pick your custom loadout.

One problem with Strongholds is that the small number of them creates a couple of issues. Firstly, it restricts only a handful of teams to getting their loadouts early on. What’s more, it also creates a prime opportunity for teams to sit and camp as others complete the Stronghold.

That said, if you’re able to get into a Stronghold and clear it out unscathed, you’re in an undoubtedly strong position.
