House of the Dragon is seriously picking up pace as it races towards the conclusion of its dramatic first season. And in episode 8, viewers saw yet another example of Prince Aegon’s evil nature. It involved a handmaiden named Dyana. But what happened to her? Is Dyana dead in House of the Dragon?
The scene was a particularly harrowing one. “The Lord of the Tides” features a six-year time jump. Queen Alicent is now handling all King Viserys’ business as he is too sick to fulfil his duties.
Alicent is informed of an incident involving her son, Prince Aegon. While it isn’t initially clear what has happened, Alicent soon meets with Dyana. Dyana is a handmaiden who is visibly shaken and scared after an encounter with Aegon.
Aegon raped Dyana, much to the disgust of his mother who later confronts him. Alicent initially sympathises with Dyana, but she ultimately decides to protect her son.
However, Dyana’s fate is fully explained. This will likely leave many viewers wondering exactly what happened to her and asking “Is Dyana dead in House of the Dragon?”
Is Dyana Dead In House of the Dragon?
Prince Aegon cares little for the handmaiden and shows no remorse for his actions. Alicent is shocked by what he did, not least because Aegon is married to her daughter – his own sister – Princess Helaena.
But how and why did Alicent ultimately decide to protect Aegon, even though she was clearly disgusted with him?
Is Dyana dead in House of the Dragon? No – Dyana isn’t dead. Despite showing the terrified handmaiden sympathy, Queen Alicent pays her off and threatens her.
She does this to shield Aegon from suffering any repercussions for his crime.
Dyana is then made to drink moon tea, which is used in Westeros to stop pregnancy.
Later in the episode, Princess Helaena asks Alicent where Dyana is. The Queen doesn’t respond – instead, she silently hugs her daughter.
It isn’t explicitly stated whether Dyana is alive or dead. However, the fact she was given moon tea suggests Alicent didn’t have her killed.
It wouldn’t make sense for her to force Dyana to drink the tea if she planned on killing her anyway.
Of course, there’s a possibility that Dyana’s horrific encounter with Aegon and her fate may factor into future episodes. But we’ll have to wait and see whether she reappears.

11 October 2022 14:27 BSTI think moon tea was the lie. She actually drank poison, to protect Aegon from scandal, which is why the queen tears up watching her drink it, she knows it will end her. Then the maid disappears. She’s dead I’m afraid, the queen didn’t want to do it but it’s par for the course for a historical depiction of medieval royalty.

11 October 2022 14:27 BSTshe’s dead … you missed the point, the queen tricked her into drinking the (poisoned) tea to cover up the (implied) rape.
