House of the Dragon has certainly defied expectations. Fans are loving it and we’ve been gripped by each episode. It showcases the totally messed up lives of each member of House Targaryen. And in the latter half of season one, Aegon Targaryen becomes an increasing focus. But who is Aegon Targaryen’s wife in House of the Dragon?
The reason viewers may be asking this is because Aegon’s wife appears alongside him in episode 8 “The Lord of the Tides”.
Prince Aegon is the eldest son of King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower. As their firstborn son, many in King’s Landing believe Aegon is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
However, Viserys chose his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen to be his heir. This leads to the ‘Dance of Dragons’.
The Dance of Dragons is a Targaryen war of succession between Aegon and Rhaenyra and is what the first season is building towards.
Viewers may have already realised that there’s something strange about Aegon. His behaviour during his first appearances in House of the Dragon is less than savoury.
Episode 8 features a six-year time jump from the previous episode. Aegon is now an adult – and his behaviour appears to have deteriorated further.
He sexually assaults a handmaiden. His mother Alicent sympathises with the girl, but nonetheless intimidates her and pays her off to protect Aegon.
She is also upset because of who Aegon is married to. His wife appears at his side later in the episode during the feast and makes thinly veiled comments about his lack of interest in her.

Aegon the Conqueror – the first Targaryen king – had two wives. They were Visenya and Rhaenys, who were both his sisters.
