House of the Dragon has been a major hit for HBO. It has even managed to exceed the expectations of many Game of Thrones fans. And that’s mostly because it delivers on what viewers want the most – intriguing plot lines and morally ambiguous characters. So, how many episodes of House of the Dragon will there be?
House of the Dragon takes place almost 200 years before its predecessor series. It follows the heyday of the House Targaryen, back when they ruled Westeros
House Targaryen is led by King Viserys I. The series begins with his ascension to the throne before skipping forward nine years into his reign. As the show explains, this is 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.
In House of the Dragon, Viserys is shown as being desperate for a male heir. He already has a daughter, Rhaenyra, but he hopes for a son to succeed him to the Iron Throne.
In the first episode, Viserys I’s wife, Queen Aemma, tragically dies in child birth. Their new son passed shortly after, too. This led to Verserys declaring Rhaenyra as his heir and Princess of Dragonstone.
However, Viserys later had a son – Aegon – with his next wife Alicent Hightower. This brings Viserys’ succession into question.
Season one features numerous time jumps. This helps set the scene for the eventual Targaryen civil war of succession between Rhaenyra and Aegon.
In episode six “The Princess and the Queen”, a new cast was introduced to better reflect the age of some main characters.
And as the years have passed in Westeros, the divisions in House Targaryen have widened and are reaching boiling point. This is turning House of the Dragon into must-watch TV, with millions of viewers looking forward to it every week.
Naturally, this means many people will be wondering how much longer season one is and asking “how many episodes of House of the Dragon will there be?”
How Many Episodes Of House of the Dragon Will There Be?
We’re loving House of the Dragon here at Downtime Bros. It has gone some way in making up for the disappointing ending of Game of Thrones. And it’s arguably the most exciting show on television/streaming right now (sorry, Rings of Powers).
How many episodes of House of the Dragon will there be? There will be 10 episodes in House of the Dragon‘s first season. The season finale – “The Black Queen” – will air on October 23rd 2022.
It’s unknown how many episodes the show will run for in total. A second season was confirmed soon after season one premiered, and this may also run for 10 episodes.
HBO’s plans for House of the Dragon beyond season two are unconfirmed. However, The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that the show is “plotted to run only about three or four seasons.”
A number of other Game of Thrones spin-off series are also in the works. However, we don’t know what impact this will have on House of the Dragon‘s overall number of episodes (if any).
