After early access for the game’s campaign, players are now jumping into Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer mode. And players are curious about the new features and changes they’re now seeing for the first time.
And this has left players asking how to unlock weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The Lachmann Sub – which is modelled after the MP5 – is one fans are particularly keen to try out. After all, the MP5 has always been a great choice in previous CoD games.
However, players will undoubtedly want to try out all the weapons they possibly can. Having said that, Infinity Ward’s changes to the Gunsmith and weapon progression systems may be confusing at first.
That’s because they’ve changed it to make guns highly customisable and to offer you more control over the weapons you build.

How To Unlock Lachmann Sub in Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer
Unlocking all weapons has changed in Modern Warfare 2.
Weapons are now separated into “Platforms”. Each Platform starts with one gun. When you customise that specific gun in Gunsmith, you will notice a new attachment known as a “Receiver”.
The Receiver essentially acts as the ‘base’ of your weapon build. And this is the key change to weapon unlocks in Modern Warfare II.
When you unlock and change the Receiver, you unlock a new variant of that gun. This new variant will fall into a different category e.g. SMG, Assault Rifle, or Battle Rifle. These new weapon variants can be seen in the Progression tab of the Gunsmith screen.
This is how to unlock the Lachmann Sub in Modern Warfare 2: There are actually two ways to unlock the Lachmann Sub. Option 1 is to rank up the Lachmann-762 and then the Lachmann-556. Option 2 is via a much quicker exploit.
Unlock Option 1
- Rank up to Level 16 to unlock the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle.
- Level the Lachmann-762 up through level 12 to unlock the Lachmann-556.
- Level the Lachmann-556 up through level 11 to unlock the Lachmann Sub.
Unlock Option 2 – Exploit
This option is an exploit and is quicker than the intended method of unlocking the Lachmann Sub.
- Create a Custom Loadout with the Expedite 12 Shotgun in the Primary slot.
- Equip any Perk Package with the Overkill perk. The game will automatically equip the Lachmann-556 Assault Rifle in the Secondary slot, even if it isn’t unlocked.
- Level the Lachman-556 up through level 11 to unlock the Lachmann Sub.
