We’re half-way through 2024 and this year has seen the launch of some fantastic games. While it might sometimes seem like there’s nothing exciting coming up, there are plenty more great looking titles to come in the last six month of the year.

So, what is there to look forward to in the second half of 2024? Let’s take a look.

Black Myth: Wukong

Release Date: 20 August 2024

Platforms: PS5, PC (Xbox TBA)

In August, we’ll finally get our hands on Black Myth: Wukong which I first wrote about back in 2021.

Wukong has been built in Unreal Engine 5 and, as a result, looks visually stunning. The game follows the adventures of Sun Wukong (“the Monkey King”), an iconic figure in Chinese mythology.

The tale of Sun Wukong comes from Journey to the West, one of the great classics of Chinese Literature. Whether Black Myth: Wukong reaches those lofty heights remains to be seen, but this action RPG Soulslike certainly looks promising.

Star Wars Outlaws

Release Date: 30 August 2024

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Star Wars Outlaws is a third-person, action-adventure game that is the first in the franchise to feature a fully open-world.

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws follows Kay Vess and her companion Nix as they travel to various planets across the galaxy, including Tatooine, on their journey to commit a heist for the ages.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Release Date: 5 September 2024

Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S

The last game in the series, Call of Prypiat, came out in 2010. Despite being scheduled for release in 2012, Heart of Chornobyl was initially cancelled before remerging in 2018 with a planned release date in 2022. Unfortunately, the War in Ukraine (the game is developed by Ukrainian studio GSC Game World) caused the game to be delayed to 2024 – and it looks like we’ll at last get our hands on it in September.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a first-person shooter survival horror game that takes place in an alternate-history version of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone where a second disaster in 2006 resulted in physical, meteorological, and biological changes all over the Zone. It’s terrifying stuff and one that should be great for new players and those returning to the series alike.

Astro Bot

Release Date: 6 September 2024

Platforms: PS5

Astro’s Playroom is probably the most played game on PlayStation 5. The cute platformer came pre-installed on the console and showed off exactly what the new DualSense controller was all about while celebrating the history of PlayStation.

Now, Astro is getting their very own full-length, standalone game with Astro Bot which promises over 80 levels across 6 galaxies and 50 planets. If you wanted more of the fun on offer in Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot is not one to miss.

Silent Hill 2

Release Date: 8 October 2024

Platforms: PC, PS5

The remake survival horror fans have been waiting for. Silent Hill 2 first graced our consoles in 2001 and is widely regarded as one of the best titles in the history of the genre.

Remade in Unreal Engine 5, Silent Hill 2 follows James Sunderland as he ventures to the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his wife, Mary, who died three years earlier.

The original Silent Hill 2 explores themes of guilt and grief while delivering one of the most intense survival horror experiences ever made. Hopefully this remake can do its predecessor justice.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Release Date: 25 October 2024

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

This year’s Call of Duty returns to the iconic Black Ops sub-series with a follow-up to 2020’s Black Ops Cold War.

Venturing into the 1990s, Black Ops 6 is a “dynamic and intense spy thriller” that takes place during the Gulf War. Russell Adler returns from Cold War alongside series mainstay Frank Woods, both of which have been branded traitors.

Black Ops 6 will see the return of round-based zombies as well as the introduction of an all-new “omnimovement” system that allows players to run, slide, and dive in any direction.
