Halo 2 fans have just been given the mother of all reasons to revisit the classic Xbox game. Serious money has been put on the line for the first player to beat a borderline impossible Halo 2 challenge.

YouTuber and Twitch star Charlie ‘MoistCr1tikal’ White has put up $20,000 dollars to the first person who can complete the infamous LASO challenge.

Halo 2 came out back in 2004. And in the 18 years since its release, the feared LASO challenge has remained unbeaten.

MoistCr1TiKaL started by offering up just $5,000 dollars to the first person who could complete the challenge. But now, after weeks of it going incomplete, he has upped the ante by offering a whopping $20,000.

So, what exactly is the Halo 2 LASO challenge, what are the rules, and how can you take on the challenge?

What is MoistCr1tikal’s Halo 2 Challenge?

The Halo 2 LASO Challenge is nothing new. It has been around for nearly two decades and remains unbeaten – even after all this time.

MoistCr1tikal wants to see the challenge beaten. By offering up $20K, he hopes to motivate someone to make history and beat the challenge.

The Challenge

It demands perfection. It’s like a six hour run – six to seven hours depending on how efficient you are. And you have to play absolutely perfect the entire time with almost no mistakes and still luck needs to be on your side. I think it can be done. I really do.

Cr1tikal’s Halo 2 Challenge breaks down as follows:

  • Complete the Halo 2 campaign on Legendary difficulty.
  • Activate all gameplay modifying ‘Skulls’ except Envy.
  • Do not die.

For those who don’t know, ‘Skulls’ are gameplay modifiers that increase Halo 2’s difficulty. Envy is the only one that has a positive effect (cloaking/invisibility) hence its exclusion from the challenge.

If that wasn’t hard enough, Halo 2 has the hardest Legendary campaign of all Halo games.

Cr1tikal has explained that in the past few weeks of challenge attempts, 99% of players couldn’t get past level 1. Of those players, 80% couldn’t even get through the first two rooms (including himself).

The Rules

On top of the challenge itself, there are some additional rules to be aware of if you want to undertake the mighty task.

  • You must stream your attempt on either Twitch or YouTube.
  • No Save/Load cheesing.
  • No external modifications or cheats.
  • Glitches present in the game are allowed.

How To Take The Halo 2 Challenge

The challenge can be completed on either Halo 2 Classic or Halo 2 Anniversary.

Halo 2 on Xbox

Each version of the game has different pros and cons. However, Cr1tikal says the challenge is significantly easier on Halo 2 Classic due to unpatched glitches (mainly ‘ghosting’) and less aggressive enemies.

To take Cr1TiKaL’s challenge, you MUST stream your successful attempt and upload the full video (video-on-demand) without editing.

For anyone who thinks they can sneakily edit a clip and cheat to win, Cr1tikal explained:

We are going to go through that sh*t with a fine-tooth comb. We wanna make sure there is no editing or tomfoolery afoot – no fishy business. This is why it needs to be streamed. There needs to be VOD evidence proving that it’s real.

Once you’ve done that, you need to fill-in and submit MoistCr1tikal’s bounty form with your details.

A dedicated Discord community has also been set up for participants to discuss strategies and tactics.
